If you are a weirdo like me, OpenSCAD is very good for this kind of geometrical modelling (as opposed to smooth flowing shapes). I’m wondering if I can fit Flip 7 and Vengeance into one of the boxes…
No joy. Single stacks of cards are too tall.
And too wide for the F7V box even if I built a drawer for it. Might try a full custom.plastic box.
Autodesk fusion running through Wine on Arch linux - I’ve been waiting for some installer bugs to get worked out and finally have it working (and display scaling is fixed for it too).
Having been slightly perturbed at my use of elastic bands, one of the handier members of our club made me some nice cardboard tuckboxes for all of my Wingspan cards ![]()
or as we said the other night when someone got out his copy of Carcassonne with all the tiles in cardboard tuckboxes he had found the files for somewhere on the internet “Printed on his 2D Printer”
I used to joke that if you could print a spreadsheet on a conventional printer, a 3d printer should enable the printing of databases.
Well, I’ve been away for a bit. I’ve kinda moved on from Boardgames for a bit? I’ll be back - don’t worry!
Got myself a 3d printer and designed a “better” insert for Hostage Negotiator that fits all the bits with sleeved cards easily.
Was it a waste of time/filament? Probably - but I had fun!
Mistakes were made, but I learned a lot - and it’s not enough of an error to need a reprint.
Ooh, I like that dice lifter. I may well steal that idea. Thanks!
I wish I’d put a bit of a “U” shape to it - but it wasn’t worth re-printing!
If I had one of those, every time I used it, I’d feel like a Bond villain with an overly complex death vector for the dice, which in this case, I suppose, represent secret agent(s) and their short-term love interests.
“Do you expect us to dice?”
“No, I expect you to teeter precariously atop one another in two columns, back-to-back with this small wall between you!! Mwahahahaha!!”
(Action, excitement, and rolling ensues…)
I’ve been a busy bee working on my CAD skills via an Ark Nova insert lately. I think I’m improving
.
I’m working on something more complex and special for eternal decks now…
I’ve not finished this eternal decks insert yet, but can’t resist…

I’m very proud of my first print in place hinge design, and it’s totally necessary - not just ridiculous flair
.
Now to make the rest!
I keep seeing Shorts by the guy who turns boardgames into “books”. The latest was for Catan.

That’s so damn cool
It’s late, but it’s finished! I’m properly proud of this one.

That is SO much better than what I’m trying to make!
Trouble is, back at work - so no time for inserts! (Or playing for that matter…)
Anywho… What wall widths are people using? I seem to have settled on 1.2 or 1.6 depending on the usage case.
This one mainly uses 1mm walls. Keeps the weight down and is just strong enough. Where I’m less tight on space that can be as wide as 2mm for holding large tiles or player boards.
A simple one for Paupers’ Ladder and its Medley collection of expansions. All in the base game box.
( https://makerworld.com/en/models/2712927-paupers-ladder-expansions-board-game-insert if you need it!)
and a little hint of storage things to come…
This is going to use a lot of plastic!
With innovation on pause due to needing to ruminate on an unbalanced hinge issue I’ve been working on other projects. Several non-insert related things (got to justify this new printer to my wife!) but also a modification of my emberleaf insert to accommodate my freshly designed upgraded pieces.
Wishing I could do this all day instead of the day job!
Maybe I should start a 3d printing thread to avoid the drift from foamcore to plastic derailing this one?
