A Touch of Evil - PBF Game 1

Thomas, go for it - I’ll hold off and end turn.

Okay then, yes Thomas (@RossM) is up now to end this round. Still heading to the Blacksmiths for today’s Swap Shop?

Yep.

Head to the blacksmiths please!

Thomas yomps back into Town to the Blacksmiths and first draws an Event card …

  • "You’ve Come to Save Us!" Play Immediately. Greeted with joy by the locals, you bring hope to this devastated village. Immediately gain Investigation equal to your Honor.

All those KO’s pay off as the locals recognise your resolve, persistence and bouncebackability in the face of evil, so you gain 3 Investigation. Is it shopping time next - if so, what will you buy as you can buy more than one Item?

I’ve got ten investigation yes?

Yes you have 10 now.

Ok. Plan is.

Buy the book of town history for 4.

Spend 3 to reveal the last secret.

Spend 3 on healing herbs

Give the book to @COMaestro

Okay, although I’ll change the order just a little. Thomas visits the Blacksmith to buy said book and healing herbs, then flicks through the book to discover Lady Hanbrook’s final secret …

  • Little Secrets. War Criminal. What this Town Elder did during the War of Independence is shameful to say the least. This is of no consequence to the investigation, and has no game effect.

Finally, Thomas hands his new book detailing the town’s horrors during the war to Anne Marie to read to her pupils. (Additionally, I’ll presume he receives Anne Marie’s Musket in return too.) I think that is the end of his turn though, having spent all of his Investigation, so we move on to the Mystery Phase.

First up, the Barghest Hound has some analysis paralysis over the menu choice at the Blacksmiths - and then realises he’d rather chow down on Heinrich at the Doctor’s Office.

Heinrich has 2 Fight Dice and the Hound has 4 Fight Dice, unless anyone wishes to do anything to help him …

That honourable gesture might come in handy now.

Lots of options - that to redirect the Hound, or Isabelle’s Aggressive Combat card? Time to discuss and debate…

I can take 3 hits. I was going to say I’m not that unlucky.

I’m wondering if it’s best to save some of these cards for bigger enemies?

Will you lose the musket if you use it?

Up to you, and you can crunch the numbers for the probabilities if you wish. Realistically though, the only bigger enemy in the game is the Villain itself, either in the Showdown or when he rides. It’s not a game with lots of high value enemies hidden in the location decks - although there are a couple of generic minions in them.

Muskets are not one shot weapons.

(I mean they are, but you know what I mean.)

If you’re happy to shoot the musket then I’d be very happy. If it goes badly I can heal you

Does that make any sense? I think I lost momentum halfway through typing

How am I going to get there? I think your card only lets you move into a fight.

Isabella can give you +2 combat for one round, presumably the first; and cancel one wound you take. These are one-shot effects but I think they’re worth using (the anti-wound perhaps if it makes the difference between you getting one more round of combat any not).

If you’re ok to give me that card then let’s go for it, at least we’ll be rolling the same number of dice

Sounds like a plan!

Are you going for that approach then?

Sure, Isabella plays Aggressive Combat on Thomas and will play Just A Scratch whenever he asks for it.
