A Touch of Evil - PBF Game 1

AH - you beat me to that.

@gmwhite999 asked for a die roll:
Right then: Cooperative Mystery Phase event is overcome but now for the Mystery Card, which is …

  • Paranoid Delusions. If Lord Hanbrook is still alive (which he is) every Hero must immediately make an Honor 6+ test. If failed, they lose d3 Wounds.

Sadly that is a nasty one right now. Your Honor tests are:

  • Anne Marie (Honor 3) rolls 3d6: 3 + 5 + 1 = 9
  • Isabella (Honor 2) rolls 2d6: 4 + 6 = 10
  • Thomas (Honor 2) rolls 2d6: 1 + 2 = 3
  • Heinrich (Honor 4) rolls 4d6: 5 + 4 + 6 + 2 = 17

@gmwhite999 asked for a die roll:
Isabella and Heinrich pass their test, but Thomas and Anne marie suffer the Lord’s wrath.

  • Anne Marie loses d3: 3 Wounds
  • Thomas loses d3: 3 Wounds

@gmwhite999 asked for a die roll:
That was not good. Both Anne Marie and Thomas are now KO’d, move to the Town Hall but will miss their turn next round while they recover. They also have to lose the following number of Items, Allies and/or Investigation:

  • Anne Marie must lose d6: 4 things.
  • Thomas must lose d6: 2 things.

Tragically, both of them must lost their 1 remaining Investigation plus their one item: Anne Marie discards her Book of Medicine and Thomas discards his Musket.

While we recover from this rotten luck, I’ll prepare the board for the start of Round 5.

Early Reaction. This game is more random than fury of Dracula.

There are bits I’m enjoying, but my word Jason C. Hill likes his “do d6 things”. I wonder about using an average die when the specific number matters (as opposed to “get this or more on multiple dice”). We’ll see.

@gmwhite999 asked for a die roll:
Round 5 now begins and here is the board at the start of the round (hopefully correct this time as I’ve rechecked the Investigation and Wounds totals).

The First Player this round is Isabella and both Thomas and Anne Marie are still KO’d so effectively miss this turn, and revive early in the Mystery Phase.

The remaining Heroes’ movement rolls are as follows:

So, Isabella: where do you wish to move to, or will you linger in the Fields?

[Isabella]
The two Investigation on the Church remain there until someone picks them up, don’t they, rather than vanishing at the end of the round or something?

In which case I’ll move to the Manor and investigate things there.

Yes, Investigation on the board stays until someone visits that space and successfully makes their Spirit or Cunning 5+ test to pick them up.

Isabella heads back to the Manor and while searching there she finds …

  • Cross (Item) Any Vampire, Ghost or Demon you are fighting has -1 Fight Dice (minimum of 1). Discard to prevent 1 Wound to any Hero or Town Elder in your space (including yourself).

Another nice find against this Villain. I don’t think that you can do anything further this round though, and Thomas is still recuperating.

Heinrich (@Captbnut) is next with only a movement of 1. You get a free Event card which is …

  • Recovery. Play at any time (except during a Fight) to immediately Heal D6 Wounds from a Hero or Heal D3 Wounds from the Villain OR Play to immediately take any Ally out of any discard pile.

Where do you wish to move to?

Covered bridge please

@gmwhite999 asked for a die roll:
Covered Bridge card roll: d6: 2

@gmwhite999 asked for a die roll:
Heinrich skips to the Covered Bridge, but his searching reveals another Mystery Card:

  • Rumors Run Rampant. If Sophie the Midwife is still alive, roll a D6. Every Town Elder with Honor equal to or less than the number rolled immediately gains one additional Secrets card.

Mystery Card Honor roll: d6: 2

@gmwhite999 asked for a die roll:
Fortunately the only Town Elder than will gain an additional Secret is Lady Hanbrook, as Doctor Manning has already turned to evil.

However, with Anne Marie also KO’d at the Town Hall I believe that is the end of your turn - and now Darkness makes its move, starting with that remaining Barghest Hound who travels 2 spaces to the Covered Bridge to attack Heinrich!

Fight Round 1:

  • Heinrich rolls 2d6: 3 + 2 = 5
  • Barghest Hound rolls 4d6: 5 + 2 + 2 + 1 = 10

Heinrich takes 1 more Wound, leaving him with only one left. Will you stay to fight another round, or escape - and if so, where to?

What do I have to lose if I lose this fight?

A Hero that gets KO’d loses D6 worth of Investigation, Items and/or Allies. In your case, that means you are most likely to lose your Book of the Occult.

I’ll run away towards town

@gmwhite999 asked for a die roll:
The wise move, sadly. Heinrich retreats to Road space 4 and combat ends

Now, Thomas and Anne Marie revive, and next the Cooperative Mystery Phase Chart roll, which is a d6: 2.

That result leads to…

  • Creeping Shadow. The Shadow Track immediately moves 1 space closer to Darkness. The Heroes may collectively take 3 Wounds divided as they see fit to prevent this.

So, are you letting the Shadow Track move, taking the wounds (remember Thomas and Anne Marie are fully healed, and Isabella can burn Investigation), or using an Event card to stop the Shadow Track?
