Wot are you playing (video games)

I do like a game of mini metro!

I’ve finally beaten Slay the Spire, which I hoped would reduce the inclination to sink way too much time into it… But then I discovered the daily challenges

Have you tried Endless runs? :smiling_imp:

I have not, but I have set up the app-blocking app on my phone to only allow 1 hour on gaming apps per day, and turned the strict mode on so I can’t subvert the limit for “just 10 minutes” :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

Alas, only Mini Metro is on tablet. So, if I want to play Mini Motorways, I have to get off bed and go to the laptop (first world complaining)

I crashed at 1,428

Uh-oh… I’ve been gifted a copy of Slipways, and I have an essay due next week :grimacing:

R.I.P. essay.
Maybe just wait until you install

Probably wise given the utterly thrilling subject of the essay (GDPR compliance)

Have chatgpt give you the outline. ask it a few more questions. let it write the paragraphs. play slipways.

It is good for outlines. I used that a lot. Mostly for things where you can spot its mistakes at a glance.

I also like it for outlines - it helps me get through the “staring at a blank page” phase faster!

Just finished The 7th Guest VR, which I really enjoyed. I remember playing the original back in high school and while I cannot recall the story in any detail, this version definitely gave the same vibes.

Really enjoyed the puzzles. Some were ridiculously easy while others did take me a bit, but nothing that was so difficult that it made me give up or look up the solution. I never even used any of the hint coins you find scattered around. Only problem is you can really only play it once, or at least have to wait some time before you forget the solutions and can play it again.

Recommended!

Also Vampire the Masquerade: Justice, another VR game where you enter White Wolf’s World of Darkness as a vampire trying to figure out what happened to your sire. Enjoyed the trial enough to buy it.

Lastly, tried out Thrill of the Fight, a VR boxing game that was rated pretty highly and considered one of the most realistic on the Meta store. After a very short warmup on the speed bag, I jumped in with a sparring partner, then into the first match. I won, but I was thoroughly exhausted afterwards. Throwing dozens of punches over a 5-10 minute span apparently takes a lot of energy.

And they say video games make you fat and lazy…

I have an eye on VR for a while now, tried a friend’s Oculus Rift some months ago which was pretty impressive.

Let’s see when I get interested enough to pull the trigger. Maybe with the next generation?

The latest Stardew Valley patch finally happened to come out on the Switch in November and since then my wife and I are playing a lot again! We started a new farm, with our old one we reached a point of being done with everything, there was barely anything new to do.

But with the new farm (a different farm layout ofc), the new events and stuff the patch added, our love for the game got rekindled. It is so good!
I am still the guy planning everything out while my wife just wants to do what piques her interest but together we are a good team and it is so much fun. Best longterm couch coop game!

Anyone interested in GoG keys for Baldur’s Gate 1 Enhanced Edition or / and Baldur’s Gate 2 Enhanced Edition?

Apropos GoG: there was an announcment they will only have Warcraft 1 and 2 on there until December 13th or so. I haven’t bothered to check why… probably some “Evil Blizzard” shenanigans.

Because Blizzard made some (not so great what I heard) remasters and wants to sell these instead.

This is the article I read about GoG and Warcraft & Warcraft II: Blizzard’s pulling of Warcraft I & II tests GOG’s new Preservation Program - Ars Technica

According to that they will no longer be sold by GoG from 13th December, but they have committed to continue supporting them for anyone who already owns them, to “ensure [Warcraft I & II remain] compatible with modern and future systems.”

I have really fond memories of playing Warcraft and Warcraft 2. They were some of my favorite games for a long time.

But I’m not paying $10 or $15 for them now  Makes me kind of sad to think about it like that.

I’m trying not to get too excited by Indiana Jones and the Massive Ring but early reviews look pretty great.

I have to wait for PS5 release, so I figure all reviews will be in by then, but I am definitely interested by what I’ve seen so far.

Been playing a bit of the new Path of Exile, it’s fun, but some of the boss fights are tough. And I probably haven’t reached any of the “real” bosses yet. I’ve started a few characters, but the most fun is the sorceress. Lots of ranged damage, mostly lightning based, but a couple of ice abilities, and the always popular wall of fire.

Still getting used to the skill system. It seems you can use any weapon you want, and then apply gems to add abilities. Or abilities come with the weapon. I picked up a mace, and now I get to use skeletal minions. And there is a skill tree, which looks a bit overwhelming, but so far my choices for points have been a) more damage b) more mana, or c) increase other attributes. Most of the time I’ve been picking more damage, that seems to work ok. When in doubt, hit something harder.

Judging by the chat, a lot of people are having trouble with bosses. I’ve certainly died…a number of times. It can be a bit frustrating, sometimes you need to take a break. The fights seem to make sense, it is usually fairly obvious which bits of the ground you might want to avoid, and maybe you want to dodge when the boss winds up for a big strike.

I hear some later fights are really hard, like “make one mistake and it’s over” kind of hard. Have to see how I go.

Here I am, looking dead sexy and just hanging out with some friends…

I’ll definitely be looking into that Path of Exile but probably not before the Christmas break.
