Same. Cannot even imagine how to win this game.
FTL/Into The Breach are similar to most Roguelikes in that “losing” a run isn’t necessarily a failure. You explore the systems, learn how they work, and in doing so you die. I’d argue that you’ve only failed as a player if you’ve died to something you already understand and could have prepared for / played better against. Most deaths are just part of the process of mastery.
I have been playing a little bit of Spelunky 2 which it turns out is also very difficult to progress in, so the above is what I have been telling myself
One ship unlock is really hard and requires a bit of luck to hit all the encounters you need.
Ghosts 'n Goblins Resurrection arrived last week and I’ve been chipping away at it since yesterday. Finally surmounted the first stage and realized I wasn’t playing on Legend difficulty, so that took me down a peg. Back to the drawing board!
Flashback to playing G+G on the ZX Spectrum +2
Right, getting that now.
I’ve started FFVII Re-Mako. The game does nothing for me, but the cutscenes make me all teary.
I just “finished” Ghost of Tsushima.
Phew. Helluva game. Helluva ending. Tempted to immediately dive back in to do the New Game+ mode (on Kurosawa-style, because why not), but I think I’ll put the game aside until I finish my novel at least. Then maybe I’ll go back to Tsushima.
But yeah. What a great game.
Had some free time, sunk it into Factorio. Quite the hook that game has. 10 hours in and my huge (or so I thought) factory is now a tangled mess, unsuitable for further expansion. I have that ticking over, self-sufficiently doing basic research and providing materials for an entirely new, much larger factory I’m now building after clearing out a ton of the indigenous wildlife.
Started playing **ghost of Tsushima **.
Man the navigation in this game is spectacular. Continues the theme and keeps the Screen so clear of clutter. Hoping more games take this type of approach in the future.
When I am playing something I am still playing Dyson Sphere Program and for some weirdo reason it gave me a little kick when I heard Scott Manly mention in one of his videos that he played Factorio and Dyson Sphere Program at some point
Well, it apparently took 40 hours, but I “finished” Factorio and I’m glad I did. Never got around to the planned ore-transporting rail extension, or uranium mining and nuclear power, or artillery, so there’s still plenty to explore if I go back, but for now I’m happy to have hit that milestone and to call it done.
Like everyone else, I am playing Loop Hero these days, and much like every other roguelike I’ve played… sucking at it.
My brain just does not handle roguelikes well. I’m on the second baddy and it is thoroughly kicking my butt over and over again. Just unlocked the 3rd hero-type, and I’m curious if that will help…
Tried that, really didn’t like it. Seems like an awful lot of grinding. If it were about discovering deck combinations and using them effectively, it might be great, but it seems to have all the cards locked away behind endless resource-gathering to build up your settlement, and no way to shorten the grind required to do so.
What does that entail?
(I will regard DSP as finished once I build an artificial star inside a dyson sphere but that is still off quite a bit)
Sending a rocket to space. I’m not sure if the satellite payload is essential or not, but I put one up there.
Funny how different in scale the objectives are, but it all really depends on how involved the network is to get there. In Factorio you start as a guy next to a wrecked ship, chopping down trees and picking up stones, so it feels like quite a journey looking back. Figuring out the logistics chains for oil processing and automating all the research was very involved.
There’s apparently an achievement for sending up a rocket in under 8 hours, but I can’t imagine how you’d go about that.
(Most of) my first factory, at night, mostly no longer operational.
My second factory, surrounded by dying trees and green polluted lakes, in which you can also see the first in the top left corner.
I like the concept of Loop Hero but there doesn’t seem to be any in-game feedback about what sort of choices are rewarding or any real way to discover the secret tile interactions. At least to start with - apparently you later unlock an in-game encyclopedia. But I’ve played several hours and haven’t, and have no idea what are good tiles to play, what good places to put them are, or any interactions except blossoming meadows and making a High Peak.
Can you prevent the pollution?
DSP doesn’t have pollution but despite that I’ve gone renewable in both my attempts. Mostly because then I don’t have to worry about fuel running out on a far away planet or even locally though my second game has an abundance of coal and special resources that make it so I don’t need the coal to create graphene.
But on game two I am once again hitting the point where I just cannot produce enough materials for the dyson sphere. I am just fixing snags in the supply chain instead of expanding. And my orderly system of placing my production in a pair of rings toward one of the poles is already getting out of wack…
Center shows my research center at the pole and the ring of factories with satellite energy systems and planetary and interstellar logistics systems is just about visible. In DSP you get a whole star cluster to exploit… I’ve managed to reach 3 or 4 other systems to import special resources that make it so I can cut out part of each supply chain and simplify.
You unlock ways to reduce pollution, like solar power instead of steam, but they are expensive, and mining and just about everything causes some degree of pollution. Trees and water mitigate pollution, as do the aliens. The main incentive not to pollute is that the aliens don’t like it, and they are a significant threat when your pollution cloud starts spreading over their territory (and they expand their territory).
I’ve fallen into the Dead Cells lifestyle. I’m still only on 1BC, but it’s just nice to play a few runs when I get in in the evenings. Getting to the point where fun new weapons are starting to slow down… got one power to unlock at the mo, then it’s just costumes.
It’s weird that my fav two games this generation have been littleish indies: DC and Hollow Knight. Horizon Zero Dawn would be up there too though.
