Losing interest in Wordle, mainly because there are so many situations like this where the large number of possibilities cannot be narrowed down by clever or logical choices. It’s the key flaw in the game, turning it from a puzzle to an exercise in lucky guessing.

It’s only the “hard” mode which exhibits this problem (and I’d never play it like that for this very reason).
Otherwise the key is to recognise those situations where there are more possible answers than remaining guesses and, rather than wasting a guess eliminating only 1-2 letters, instead try to eliminate 3-5 letters at a time, hitting as many of those “possible” letters as you can in a single line.
Coming up with words which will use as many of those letters as possible is the puzzle at that point.

I played on hard mode - it’s too trivial on normal mode imo for the reasons and strategies you bring up Phil.
I dont consider the ability to fail like this a flaw in the game itself - sometimes you can lose in pandemic and I don’t think most people consider that a flaw of the game but something that adds character to it.
The problem, for me, is that you have this thing which Advertises a streak as part of the score and in that adds this luck element which feels antagonistic to a streak. And then this problem is compounded (for me at least) in that I will need to play for another 1/3 of a year to beat my high score if possible.
I think I’ll keep playing it but just because it’s a fun thing to do for a few mins each day.
Same. Once I lost my streak I stopped worrying about it.
It defaults to that? I didn’t even know there were different difficulty levels.
Well, I delete all cookies automatically, so I always start with a clean slate 
No worries about ratings at all.

I don’t believe it defaults to hard; but if it’s requiring you to keep using the letters you’ve found already then that’s definitely what it’s set to. There’s a little cog icon in the top-right corner which opens the settings menu.

I’m so annoyed at myself. I guessed the answer a couple guesses before but I think I mis typed it or misspelled it and didn’t realize it didn’t take it. So then guessed more stuff getting increasingly frustrated until I looked back over my guesses list and saw it wasn’t there. Totally my own fault.
