The sprog at courthouse rock, red river gorge Kentucky.

Also, that I can post that from next to the campfire in the middle of nowhere is pretty amazing. (I’ll share it in a less cumbersome fashion when I’m not in the middle of nowhere.)

We had another day of „vacation“ and spend it in town with a nice lunch, too much ice-cream, going to the movies (Deadpool & Wolverine) and finally sitting in front of the castle to watch the Schlosslichtspiele.

For the past 10 years for the second half of August and first half of September there is an event here that projects art/videos onto the castle every night. It is quite impressive especially since most of the projections incorporate the architecture in some way. The former director of the ZKM initiated it.

The castle is painted in a light yellow/white so it‘s pretty good for projecting on. As an aside, this is not the original castle but a replica rebuilt after the war.

Behind the castle is a huge park favorite by students from the university, which in this POV is to the right. To the left you find the botanical garden and within that garden you find the Bundesverfassungsgericht. Behind me is the Platz der Grundrechte and beyond is the Marktplatz and city center.

When you said you were going to an event in Manchester I didn’t think this is what you meant!

Today after more than half a century of living 25 minutes drive from it, I finally visited Rosslyn Chapel. It was cool!

Several months ago I, as someone who up until recently actively hated running, agreed to do a “fun run”. A fun run is usually something short and easy - people do them in fancy dress to raise money for charity. Unfortunately for me, this fun run was organised by a fell running group, and I have to conclude that fell runners are bonkers.

The course was 8.5 miles (~13 km) with ~1500’ (460ish m) of elevation gain:

Fortunately, the scenery in Northumberland is beautiful, and since it was a “fun” run, it didn’t matter that I walked up most of the hills and ran on the flat/downhill bits

(You’ll just have to take my word for it that that’s me on the left)

Today we did a much more sedate walk to Hareshaw Linn, with a cream tea afterwards (cream then jam, for anyone who wants to call me a heretic  )

Well done!

‘Fun run’ is an oxymoron!

Fell runners are bonkers. Why not just have a nice walk??

Northumberland is lovely. Best beaches in the world, and the hills inland are both gorgeous and almost completely deserted.

There were also “short” and “long” run options. The “short” course was 14 miles…

380km across the mountainous spine of Wales, from the north coast to the south coast. Nutter…

(that’s not him, just giving an example of some the terrain!)
