I currently have a folded up mat in front of my work chair that my feet rest on, about 4 inches off the ground. I had no idea this would be necessary when I bought my desk, but it is, and I’m glad I noticed eventually. I sometimes think about sawing all the desk legs down by 4 inches…
At some point in my “sitting career” I had my chair on a setting much too high for my height or rather for my legs and I was continuously putting my feet on my toes kind of like walking around in highheels all day long.
There was a point where everytime I got up in the morning my ankles would buckle and just walking around was very painful. I could not go down any stairs without the help of the handrails anymore. I thought it had all started when I tried to take up running again and got inlays for my running shoes. Nothing changed. I stopped running again (I hate it anyway).
I went to see a doctor and found no help. I went to physio and it barely changed anything. They never saw me sitting at my desk. Sitting usually causes back problems not “I cannot walk anymore” problems.
One day my partner, who has received some ergonomics training at his job, came into my office and said “Oh, I know what’s wrong with you.” and then he fixed my seating position and within weeks I was able to walk again normally.
I sometimes still do this thing and I have to forcibly remind myself every time to put my feet flat on the ground.
Left image top left green+pinkish was bought at the Knockando Wool Mill in 2014 or so. Being my winter favorite I am very sad it has a few tiny holes from lots of wear.
The red one just below was bought at the Islay Wool Mill a few years later.
The Green-blue one below that is the latest acquisition from Ireland.
There are silk shawls (the gold one and the reddish-purple one (on the very left, 2nd from the bottom) I bought in Madurai in India in 2008.
The stripy purple one and the blue one at the bottom left I bought in Bangkok in the museum house of the guy who started exporting silks to Europe. The blue one is the most beautiful shawl I own. I barely ever dare to wear it.
The very light purple one on the left between Ireland and India is a linen one I bought in San Gimignano a few years ago.
One from Cambodia–supposedly silk but I think I was scammed with that one (bottom right first image)
a wool one from Norway–a dud I never wore,
a pair of sarongs from Samoa (center picture bottom right)
old Hermès silks I inherited from my mom at the top of the center picture plus
in the right picture a whole bunch of various including one I wore at my wedding (the white thing on the right).
I don’t remember the butterfly one…
The bright greenish one towards the top on the right in the first picture is one I bought for my Zoro cosplay
It’s an easy to find souvenir, easy to pack, too and I actually wear a lot of them regularly.
