Finished A Scanner Darkly, what a bizarre book.
Now re-reading Neuromancer, I barely remember this book at all. Glad I decided to do a re-read before starting on the second.

Finished Abercrombie’s Half a King series. It is a fine YA fantasy series, nothing amazing though.
Read the first book of Becky Chambers Wayfarer series with the name The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet. It is a science fiction series. It had a very diverse cast and interesting story with some feel good moments. I enjoyed it and look forward to reading the rest of it.
I would call it only loosely a “series” – it’s happening in the same universe and some of the characters show up in more than one book, but don’t expect a through plot or anything. That said, I love 'em.
Thanks for the information! Good to know
I’ve just pulled out Mind the Map which is a lovely coffee table book that I was given for Christmas years ago but somehow never got around to finishing… Possibly because I don’t own a coffee table.
It has excellent ear-books, too. I enjoyed the 3 parts I listened to.
In light of Suzanna Clarke’s recent win for Piranessi has anyone else read or intending to read the book.
Interested in how others found it. I loved it!!!
I bought the audio book yesterday
It was one of my Christmas presents, and was rapidly read in a couple of days. I found it very enjoyable, with an engaging narrative and an interesting reveal of the central mystery. I don’t think I’ve read that many epistolary novels, but it reminded me that I very much enjoy the format, particularly if there is also an unreliable narrator. Clarke managed to leave enough hints and suggestions in the words not written that made me think more about what was happening beyond what was being presented.
A great book, highly recommended, and thoroughly deserving of the award.
I’m interested to know how it fairs in audio book form. It could be daunting to start with in written form.
Completely agree.
Although a bit short the rate of information provided to the reader is perfectly paced to keep you engaged. I feel like I inhaled the latter half of it as the pieces of the puzzle slotted into place.
I have it sat in my to read pile, as I very much enjoyed JS&MN, but who knows when I’ll actually get around to reading it.
Likewise. Reading just at present is not in its usual form. More “Buy a book, read it immediately.”
Stayed up late last night to finish Neuromancer. Some bits of the book towards the end I remembered, other bits I didn’t. Onto Count Zero tonight.
Latest Joe Abercrombie, The Wisdom of Crowds, final part in his Age of Madness trilogy. I sense some late nights to come as I doubt I’ll be able to put this one down.
I was in the London Forbidden Planet earlier today, and was just leaving when they announced he would be in there signing Wisdom of Crowds later!
Ooooo, buy, buy. Although I cant remember if I finished his earlier books in that series. I’ll just have to start them all over!
I am 10 pages into the (approximately) 30 page Poetics by Aristotle.
Wow this is a slog. But at least I don’t have to read it in ancient Greek, I suppose?
Horace is next, but that one is only a few pages long.
I cannot wait for it to appear on NZ shelves, it was not there on Friday.
I have it on order from the library.
