9 hours for any game is wild.
Well, it’s there in the title!
I should say 9 hours is long for a boardgame where combat is defined by rolling some d4s
Firefly is right on the edge of this for me, it’s quite a light game which starts to wear out its welcome a bit at six hours (and yet more players means more interaction). So mostly I play it with people who know what they’re in for.
I don’t get how they come up with the times for the games. Do they just put what they wish for it to be? In which case, why not work on actually getting the game to that length!? Infuriating
The one time I got a chance to ask a publisher about it, they said the time claim had got locked in fairly early in the development process and they never really got round to updating it as more stuff got added.
My newest acquisition, Indonesia, says 3-4 hours on the box, and actually took 3 on first play! The problem, of course, is that these days people read 3-4 and very reasonably assume that means 6-8.
