Yeah I feel like The Estates is one of the few games that I feel like I should have picked up while I had the chance…
Despite asking the question, this was hard in perhaps two different directions.
Buying - I seem to do better with a list than without. I get better results asking “which do I want most” than the binary “should I get this or not?” I buy much less when managing a wishlist.
Certainly sale prices will jump something up a list. Also tablability. How I’m feeling, how long my gaming windows are, who I’m likely to play with and what they like… the wishlist is a bit of a snapshot of the present.
That said, having just snapped up Key Flow, Key Harvest 2e, and Marrakesh my actual list is a bit light:
1) Lord of the Rings: The Duel
Under that is a research list I don’t really have energy or time to work through to see if things are worthy of the list. Picking the four I’m most bullish on right now:
2) Dogs of War
3) Manhattan Project: Energy Empire
4) Age of Innovation (but I already have Gaia and Caledonia…)
5) Courtisans
Compile: Main One is a near certain buy but I need it to age a bit for my “three year old” threshold before buying games. It’ll likely go on sale before that and I’ll grab it…
Unplayed Games and “It’s Been Too Long” are the opposite problem, long lists and no clear top five. Here’s my best shot:
Want that First Play:
- Zoo Vadis
- Bruxelles 1893 Belle Epoque
- Eclipse Second Dawn
- Galactic Renaissance (I’ve been loathe to pull anyone into this due to the divided reviews)
- The Gallerist
Extended List
War of the Ring, Kanban EV, Caverna (haven’t played on a table yet), Lisboa, Lorenzo Il Magnifico, Key Market, Kemet, Iki, The King is Dead 2e, Mission: Red Planet, Barracks Emperors, That’s not a Hat, Panda Spin, Tindahan, Twilight Imperium, Dune, Argent: The Consortium, Wabash Cannonball.
Want to get back on the table:
- Isle of Skye: Journeyman. I know it was panned. I have it, I’ve read the rules, I’ve stroked the components. I want to try.
- Roll for the Galaxy: Orb and Deal They look complicated and unwieldy but I really want to experience them.
- La Granja: Haven’t played the newer deluxe version. And, again, a lot of modules I’d like to test spin just to see.
- Empyreal: I’ve played on TTS and solo but haven’t gotten the real thing.
- Cyclades / El Grande - pure “it’s been too long.”
Extended List
Keyflower, Great Zimbabwe, Cosmic Encounter, Lords of Vegas, Lowlands (only played at 2), Polis, Libertalia, Babylonia, Furnace, Formosa Tea, Palaces of Carrara
I somehow forgot to put La Granja on my “play again” list. Probably would replace 6 Nimmt on there I suppose…
My wishlist of games first requires a group to play them with - and if I had that already I probably would already own (more of) these:
- a space epic like Twilight Imperium or Eclipse
- a historic epic like Cyclades, Kemet or Axis and Allies
- 1862EA or a similar 18XX to dip my toe into it (may consider Steam Power if the solo mode is good)
- El Grande which I’m sure I’d love
- Carooka or Crokinole (ditto)
The self (shelves?) of shame grows but these are the main ones to get out and play solo:
- Brass Birmingham
- Carnival Zombie
- Clans of Caledonia
- Hamburg
- Legacy of Dragonholt
Once my evenings and weekends become freer later in the year:
- Concordia to test out some new maps (Roma / Sicilia )
- Statis Pro Football now that I have the 24/25 season cards!
- Last Night on Earth to develop and test a “Left 4 Dead” style campaign idea with a huge map
- Viticulture to try out the rest of the Tuscany expansions
- Fury of Dracula (any version) because it’s a belter
I’d also love to get back into RPGing in person, when I can find a group.
Also there seem to be a lot of errata for the cards.
I’m assuming there will be a crowdfunder at some point with Main Two and Main Three, or some such, with consolidated storage and streamlined verbiage at a bundle price.
Seems to be the way of such things.
Also: Manhattan Project EE is apparently getting a kickstarter second edition out of Canada. Timely. Looks similar to Lorenzo Il Magnifico, and the second edition includes some variable setup along with the Cold War expansion that adds a few layers of player interaction, addressing the game’s weaknesses.
Timely.
- At this point, I’m not sure I really have a wishlist for games. Maybe some expansions, but even those would really only be there for feelings of completion, not because I really expected them to be used anytime soon. I’m just kind of hitting “peak game acquisition” and know that I have more games than I can reasonably play. So it really just comes down to if I see something at a good price that looks interesting to me, such as my latest purchase The Legacy of Yu.
Two things come to mind, which are the aupcoming Unmatched releases, Battle of Legends Vol 3 and Bruce Lee vs. Muhammad Ali.

Tough call, as I have a lot of unplayed games. Thinking about some new ones and then ones I have long wanted to hit the table gets me, in no particular order:
Sky Team
Courtisans
Lowlands
The King is Dead
Then probably a tie between War of the Ring, Dune, and Star Wars: Rebellion. Just one, big strategy game. -
Hansa Teutonica
Undaunted 2200: Callisto
Twilight Imperium 4th Ed
Nemesis
Cthulhu: Death May Die
