Unfortunately, while researching APPI and Facebook, I saw anecdotal evidence that simply deleting your account is not the same as removing all of your content and data; I suspect the same is true of “permanently disabled” accounts.
I assumed that a permanently disabled account would retain all data, yeah. I did think there would be a way to nuke the account though.
The support chat conversation
Hello Ben, my name is Jin and I’m here to help. Could you please tell me a bit more about what you are experiencing?

Hi, I’d like to completely delete my account and any data I’m allowed to delete, after it was arbitrarily suspended with no reason given. I will not give extra personal info above what has already been provided, and that means I’m not adding a phone number to the account. The previous support response was totally unhelpful, merely instructing me to “follow the prompts on the screen to confirm your identity”, which as I already pointed out involves giving Meta more personal information that I have no interest in providing. If there is no other process, please just tell me that so I can look into legal options. If there is an alternative way to delete the account and data, please tell me how. Please do not ignore what I have written and copy-paste boiler-plate responses.

Let me check on your account deletion concern.

Thanks for your patience. I can see that we’ve suspended your account because your account, or activity on it, doesn’t follow our Community Standards. You can find out more information about this here: Facebook: Redirecting... Instagram: https://help.instagram.com/477434105621119 In order to try and unlock the account, you will need to go through some security steps that will appear when you log into your account.

I can see here that you have started the appeal process already and is in the step where you will be presented three (3) phone numbers. You have to select the phone number associated with your account. A code will be sent to that number via text message. Kindly re-open Facebook to know where to input the code online.

Ugh, the copy-paste again. There is no phone number associated with my account and I have no intention of adding one.

Also, you may fully delete the account once this has been unlocked. You might check www.facebook.com/help for more information on account deletion.

No
this is worse than chatGPT . but maybe they have a chatbot running this. I already know the name KafkaGPT
I mostly miss r/prequelmemes I noticed.
I’ve deleted the bookmark for the last twitter account I looked at, once a week. The guy was being a bit hypocritical by staying on twitter anyway.
nitter dot net was still running for a while (and its various instances round the world), but that’s now been blocked too. It was a much better way of reading Twitter without being logged in.
There are now, apparently, also limits on the numver of tweets a logged in user can look at. 600/day is what i’ve heard, lower for ‘new’ accounts, higher (but sill limited) fro paid accounts.
this seems very much a stupid idea.
It’s possible that’s all a lie to cover up instability due to a contract with Google running out: Twitter has reportedly refused to pay its Google Cloud contract | Engadget
and apparently they released some new code that made it so twitter DDOSed itself? Twitter bug causes self-DDOS tied to Elon Musk's emergency blocks and rate limits: "It's amateur hour" - Waxy.org
(random link, I saw quite a few toots about this earlier)
It was reported 10 days or so ago that they were paying google. So, i don’t buy it. some other contract could have expired, but incompetence seems likely.
(as of a few minutes ago I can see tweets when I look at twitter without signing in),
Ah! It did look suspicious that it was the morning of the 1st of the month.
A billion-dollar Google Cloud bill seems unlikely. That is about 20% of pre-Musk Twitter’s annual revenue. It would have to be be a bill for a whole year’s services. That’s possible if a quarterly bill was outstanding when Musk took control last November and nothing had been paid since then, but it seems more likely the figure is exaggerated.
Musk certainly has form for saying “yeah, yeah, it’s paid” and then not paying. That is after all how you get richer.
It could be a couple quarters’ of bills plus late fees
Of course you also get visits from the Google heavies with their sharpened garden shed implements.
The billion dollars was the value of hte deal over some number of years, and was closer to $200MM/yr. Someone who follows thi more closely than I do siad the outstanding bill was on the order of $40 to $50 million, which is consistent with a couple months or maybe a quarter’s bill. Google’s not talking, so we’re not likely to find out much until wednesday (Tuesday is a US holiday celebrating porphyria, and many people are also off on Monday).
Yup. Attack of the 50’ Blockchain reckons the outstanding bill was $42M.
