The resurrected miniatures painting and showing off thread

You’ve got a small fortune in those painting handles!

Perk of working at a game store. Still not cheap, but reasonably priced at least.

And I need 1 or 2 more. Turns out I don’t often batch paint in sets of 12. Normally 10 or 15.

Having been so busy recently I’ve not had much time for painting but I did end up with a few hours recently and Black Cat got added to my painted chibi collection

I tend to use fizzy wine corks (the ones actually made out of cork). Place upside down, glue 3 repair washers (aka, miniature bases) on the bottom to weight it, carve the top flat, and coat in glue to accept a blob of blu-tack when dry. Sorted, and you get in the wife’s good books for buying fizz!

A trio of hobgoblins. Well, they are actually Formorians but will get used as hobgoblins for my games of the Silver Bayonet.

Here’s the gathered results of my terrain building over the last few months for my feudal Japan games. The buildings are bought and then painted resin models, everything else is scratch built. Knowing I made it myself gives everything a little bit of extra charm, even if it doesn’t match the standards of professionally produced items.

For something like this that would be handmade in reality, I think scratchbuilt with little variations often looks better than something out of a mould.

Took a wee break from necromunda gangs to paint something else.
Was trying to clear a few games out of the collection and Hey, That’s My Fish! is one that’s getting cut. I’d started painting the pieces from it a while back, so couldn’t give it away with the penguins half done

Some Russian Jaegers to skirmish with my French.

I painted the 2 Nobz from the combat patrol last of the boyz. These were fun to paint in the end. Only one photo will upload currently.

Winter has apparently found me painting yet more terrain; this time a pair of buildings for Peninsula Napoleonic games.

That dragon looks great!

The waaagh now has a boss! So I’ve painted to 2 troops units and an HQ. The bare bones of playing again. Working on 3 Deffkoptas which will get me to 500 points and see my reintroduction to 40K probably.

Finished up a Republic Tank that took five-ever (like forever, but longer) because of some damage.

The tank has a manufacturing defect, and was returned to the store I work at. I was happy to give it a good home and make the defect look like battle damage as a challenge. I think I did okay…

I did my best with green stuff to make the hole look like melted metal… I don’t think I did great, but I tried! Anyway, black basecoat followed by a couple heavy coats of dark gray.

Drybrush of a lighter gray (about 3 coats?). Good, but too dark… next time I’m doing an entire coat of dark gray as the base instead of black. But whatever.

Finished putting the colours on it. I suck at freehand, so I kept it simple. Started the gunner.

Damage painted again to try and make it look… damaged. Mixed success? I think I should’ve stuck with darker rather than trying to make it look more visible… oh well. Doesn’t look awful.

Boom. One tank that should’ve taken 2 days and instead took several weeks. Blargh. Whatever! It’s done. I have a Chewie and an Infantry Support Vehicle to do next, but no manufacturing defects I have to disguise on either of those so I’m hoping to crank 'em out.

I assumed that’s why she looked a bit blue. Nice painting by the way.

Cranked out a really quick Chewbacca paint job.

I tried some zenithal priming (just black then white)… honestly, I don’t notice a difference in the final product, but whatever, it was an interesting experiment. Started with some light and dark brown contrast paints…

Mixed in some of the orange/fur contrast paint because Chewie is more orange than yellow in his lighter areas.

Quick dark brown leather on the bandoleer, silvers on the bowcaster and ammo packs, and boom, one Over-the-Shoulder-Yoda-Holder is painted up (Chewie is only in my army because you can take him with Yoda as a means to get around… I don’t know if I’d field him in a GRA army on his own, but I guess I’ll find out at some point).

Next is the Infantry Support Vehicle (hoping to get that done for tomorrow) followed by about 20 Battletech Mechs… which might be a little trickier than average due to them being “famous” mechwarriors, which means I might have to do different paint schemes? We’ll see.

Dang! I made a decision when Legion came out to stick with XWing for the sake of my budget, but this design (enhanced by the paint job) is tempting me to dip my toe in. Its like a li’l baby Decimator!
