I don’t think they have a dedicated person to keep this stuff running. (To be fair, they possibly can’t afford one; I don’t know, I’m not in that loop.) So as with the old forums, as long as there isn’t any trouble they just leave it to run, and most of the time this is fine.

They used to have a web-guy. He used to be listed as a member of SUSD.
But this is back during the old website, and I get the impression that they have shrunk the staff several times quietly without fanfare.

I met him at an expo when volunteering on the SUSD stand. He was really nice. I’d guess the nice Canadian management people who were at that UKGE also no longer work for them and that would at least partly explain the absence of SHUX from the world

Considering the discussion a month or so ago about the members of this forum not following SU&SD’s output as much as they used to, I wonder if it’s a more widespread trend. Factor in economic woes and perhaps donations are not as prevalent as they once were. I mean, they just last year started with the Board Games Direct which are paid previews. They might not have the capital they used to in order to have more employees for website maintenance, planning a convention, or even have a third reviewer.
Admittedly, looking at the views of their YouTube videos, I’m not really seeing a decrease of any kind from previous years. Certain games get more views than others, in the 300-400k range, usually because of hype or IP, while other games that have little name recognition only get 30-40k views. And of course the longer a video is up, the more views it will have, which is why videos from years ago have over a million views.

There’s probably also a knock-on effect of lowered revenue from Youtube, which apparently has rejigged its payment scheme a few times to make everyone aside from the top-top-top performers make basically nothing.
But I don’t know, honestly. Maybe they’ve just moved more of it behind the curtain.

I didn’t cancelled my donation. Although, the money I am giving them now is worth less than what I am giving them 8 years ago

Also I get the impression that a lot of people aren’t looking at the site at all, they’re getting the videos off YouTube or TikTok, the podcasts off Apple or whoever, and the site is really only there for “hey we have this other stuff on a different third-party platform”. (Thus for example the demise of posts there that are anything else, like written reviews.)

Wait, I’m on wordpress! What are we supposed to be using?
In my defense, it offered more control than wix/squarespace but still had accessibility for someone with no experience apart from general computer science.

I have switched to a static generated website. but that also is not a great solution because the generator is complicated go use. i guess when you are on wordpress.com they are probably okay, just don’t host the software yourself. I am currently checking my logs more regularly and the scanners that probe my server almost daily are among other things always checking for presence of wordpress related files. I don’t have an alternative for self hosting a blog these days… my last entry is from 2023 and for the games from 2024

I wrote my own static site generator, but I can.t recommend this unless you enjoy that sort of thing.
