Star Trek Ascendancy game 1

Whoa whoa whoa.

You really want to give 3 production to the empire with 6 production and three free ships a turn. Who has just opened the route to your planets?
When you get no benefit from the agreement for the first turn?

When the friendly empire is just about to make contact with you in the badlands?

“Hi, Joe, we Klingons come here your planet, peace, for forgetting about war, everybody be friends now, you bet. Hullo.”

(@RossM, your turn.)

I’m going to wait on confirmation from @Marx that they’re happy to confirm that trade agreement.

That is a very fair point, Ross.

@RogerBW Since I am delayed by 1 turn on this economic boon my people are granting you through our trades, how about I give you my 2-Resource trade for your 3-Resource trade? In the grade scheme of things, it will take my 3 turns to get the same resources you gain… and hey, 2 free resources for nothin’ ain’t… nothin’.

Sure; if you like I’ll take your 1 now on the promise to upgrade it to 3 next round. (Assuming I read the rules correctly and that’s a thing you can freely do.)

I’d be more comfortable offering you the 2 for the long term to give me some extra leverage with my Federation negotiations… but I appreciate your willingness to let me waffle on my original offer.

(Basically, at some point you are going to have to start punching one of us in our big, stupid faces to gain Klingon Culture, and I’d much rather you punch Ross than me…)

Diplomacy!

Ok.

Federation spends 4 research points to upgrade phasers.

Spends three production building three ships at Earth. Form into science fleet for free.

Build 1 ship at Izar.

Command phase.

Warp ship from Izar, heading to Capella and then south west to discover a new system.

(2 Command)

In a strict reading, you can’t form Science Fleet because you used fleet card 1 for Battle Fleet. On the one hand you didn’t specify card 1; I just picked it up because it was the first one to hand; on the other you didn’t correct me.

My feeling is that because this isn’t as obvious as it would be in real life you should be allowed to swap in card 2 (Colonization) or 3 (Diplomatic) instead; let me know which you’d prefer.

Meanwhile, warp lane length [d3+1]
System choices:

  • Sigma Tama IV (PC, 3 warp lanes)
  • Dopteria (PPR, 3 warp lanes)

(I’ve clearly missed a rule here. What page of the rule book?)

The physical fleet cards are 2-sided: card 1 can be either Science Fleet or Battle Fleet, but not both at once unless you’re playing in zero-G.

p. 41 12.1.1 “Each Civilization has three different Fleet cards, each of which is double sided. The different sides of Fleet cards have different Special Rules and allow for different numbers of Ships. When you Commission a Fleet, you must choose which side you’re using. To use a different side of a Fleet card, you must Disband the Fleet and re-Commission it at your Home System or Starbase.”

@RogerBW asked for a die roll:

Remember the verb, Roger.
d3+1: 2

Thanks. Is this something that could be added to the appendixes do you think?

Let’s go diplomatic?

Sigma Tama please BTW

@RogerBW asked for a die roll:
I’ll make a note; it’s obvious with the physical cards but less so in a forum game. (To clarify: are you saying “use card #3, Diplomatic/Battle, for the battle fleet currently at Capella”?)

Exploration:
Automated Minosian Weapons (STA H4): Level 4 Hazard. If any Ships survive the Hazard, take 2 Research tokens.

Ship destroyed on 4+: d6: 2

Lovely. Both tokens on Cochran’s institute please.

Let me check what I’m saying on the other thing.

Yes. That is what I’m saying if it’s acceptable?

Science fleet at earth battle/diplomatic card at Capella.

Sorry everyone.

No problem, should be fixed now.

Automated Minosian Weapons aren’t a Phenomenon, so the tokens go into your Research pool.

Two commands used. Please check the status dump
