“Space habitats and constructed ground habitats count as capsules, allowing them to do anything a capsule can do: surveying a planet, collecting a sample, completing a mission requiring a capsule, etc.” so given Joe’s rules-writing style I think that’s a reasonable derivation.
Opened with Draftosaurus. Then we played Innovation and King of Siam twice each. We played Innovation with 3 players, both newbies. It went well. Just some terminology questions and how splaying works. And I enjoyed both games.
We ended with the 2nd King of Siam game. The game has a difficult game state to me. One player tries to make the British win and made sets rather than betting on a local faction. This made tying an awkward way to make other factions lose since there’s one player intentionally making factions tie.
Went for the Malays but pivoted away to the Khmers when the former were losing. 3rd player went for both Royalists and Khmers. The Khmers won with the 3rd player winning.
Been playing a lot of RallyMan: GT on BoardGameArena. Really enjoying it. Might have to have this appear in the recently bought games thread…

Oh i think I will!! I keep forgetting about danger lines when exiting a corner tho…
For what it’s worth, so do I on BGA. Nobody’s ever called me on it in a face-to-face game though (and nor have I seen anyone else mess it up).
Since you are the resident King of Siam advocate, I am curious about what your preferred player count for the game is. It seems that the game would play radically different at all three player counts.
2 to 4 lmao
But in order of personal preference: 4 then 2 then 3
Oh really, that’s interesting. I would have imagined that 3 would be the sweet spot, but I can also see that it’s maybe the most predictable game, if each player is going for a different faction. I am really excited to try this one!
Why I sourced a copy. Best racing game I’ve played
…King of Siam…
In case it factors into a purchase decision, The King Is Dead: 2nd Edition is due later this year.
I am loving the sound of this game’s scoring system, so this one is on my Buy list.
Also @yashima we are always willing to pbf this!
I know
I tried to convince my partner when the last call for players came to team up with me… maybe after we finish this game and know the rules a little better.
And i want to note I like the sprawl of this with the expansions a lot more than just the base game. My partner is off to explore the outer planets and I am going with the Stations. We are playing kind of cooperatively regarding technology right now … because more than winning we both want to explore everything (although finishing a mission first is nice)
Ps I haven’t forgotten about Netrunner

I was looking forward to it until I saw they’d re-themed it from early to late middle ages. Switching it to a post-Anglo-Saxon invasion game is a bit of a problem because someone has to play as the English. And they’re, to put it simply, historically, the villains.
Not just in the late middle ages…
Played two learning games of Oath tonight, which is crucial because I get to see how the Chronicles works, in practice, with 2 games.
It was only with 2 players so it was more about internalising the whole system.
The game comes with 4 “modes” which determines how to win with the primary objective. I like that. Changes every time. Cant, for example, keep playing Supremacy every time or twice in a row.
I like the emerging storytelling. I feel like Oath is less gamey than Root, and more narrative that emerges from your gameplay. Need to play it with 3 or more.
Will I play it again? Totally. I wanna continue our “campaign” with more players. Do I want to own it? I dont know, man. I dont see myself owning this for just a 2 player game.
People have to play the Nazis in WWII games…
I dont understand. They rethemed it from Arthurian Britain!?
Fair point.
