I’ve never heard skateboarding referred to as just “skating”. From the post title alone, I figured it was either roller-skating or ice-skating, and my brain went to the latter first. I was very curious as to what an ice-skating RPG might be like!

Hmmm, it’s an interesting point. Honestly ice skating was my first instinct too when I saw the word “skating”, but when I saw it was about skateboarding I didn’t question it. “Skater” I would say is exclusively for skateboarding so it’s interesting that “skating” isn’t.
