Swift victory to 13

The Hock Soups have finally simmered down…
Next is Federation Exploration
I think the Enterprise is good to go, yes?
Ah yes indeed that’s the only one
The world you arrive at has never been contacted before. Radio astronomers in nearby star systems have noticed an outpouring of the modulated radio waves emanating from the planet in recent years. This is thought to be a sure sign of an emerging technological civilization.
As our ship entered the system, sensors reported the presence of heavy space traffic. Many ships travel between here (Cheron) and nearby planets and asteroids. The Cheronian ships are powered by fusion - a primitive technology used by races who have not achieved warp drive. Navigator Chekov reports that our shields will protect our ship against radar and whatever other sensors the Cheronian ships may have.
You may:
- Activate shields and enter orbit of Cheron
- Activate shields and capture a Cheronian vessel for interrogation,
or - Contact Cheron by radio with messages of friendship
So many questions I’d like to ask if we were playing a proper RPG here.
But for now, we’ll keep our distance: Uhura, open hailing frequencies.
(i.e. contact Cheron by radio with messages of friendship.)
But what about the prime directive!
(Given that it seems the choice was between ringing the door bell or barging straight in, I thought this the more polite approach.)
You open communication with the Sht’kl’p space control. They order you to take up an orbit around one of the start systems gas giants.
Do you comply?
(Yes/no)
Go on then. Yes
You park in orbit, but they don’t seem to be in too big a hurry… You do get great TV reception though! From the images, you see they are shape-changing quadrupeds, who apparently have some fascination with a substance called “P’ps’co’la”… It’s come on the broadcast several times now. They always have the same body mass, and always have for limbs, but otherwise can adapt their bodies to whatever they are doing at the moment. That must be… handy.
When we finally heard back, they said we were waiting for the"convocation". Apparently they weren’t sure why we we’re here, which seems odd… it’s not like we’ve dropped in unexpected out anything
Finally they had a Zoom meeting with Captain Kirk, and decided we were okay. They agree to diplomatic relations with the Federation, and are eager to trade. We look forward to what contributions they will make to broader society.

Next is klingon exploration
I love the idea of Space Zoom.
Let’s have the Swift Victory explore.
You arrive at Ardana, a planet which was explored several decades ago, and noted for it’s high civilisation and extensive deposits of Zienite, a valuable mineral. Recent events have jeopardized supplies of Zienite in the Empire, and your orders are to open trade at any (maybe not any) cost.
The great civilization doesn’t seem so great though… The elite group which has previously controlled the miners had been overthrown, and now the mines are virtually abandoned.
You may:
- Leave men to run the mines themselves
- Try to open trade with the group nearest the mines
- Annex the planet
You can’t spell ‘A Klingon Explorer’ without the word Annex.
So let’s Annex the planet.
The annexation goes over with great enthusiasm! One of the local leaders swears allegiance to the Empire in exchange for weapons, and already have enslaved neighboring tribes to work in the mines for us. The rest will certainly come to reason soon.

Hurrah! Politics!
Can the Ares do anything this political phase?
Yes! DiLucca can try to influence Janus IV
Go on let’s let Ross try and do that for me.

With the Klingon captain’s helpful presentation of object lessons, the diplomacy proceeds at:
