It’s self-defeating not to take a city when someone else already has. They are so significant. A rush to a round 4 end is not uncommon.
Well, with my last turn:
Use a Green Mana Die to empower and use Tranquility to heal my Northern Monks.
Use my White Crystal to power Promise (4 Influence), and a Red Crystal to power Improvisation (5 Influence, discard Tirelessness) for a total of 9, plus my 2 “Everybody Loves Me” points, for 11 Influence.
Sadly, I can only use 8 of them to get those Fire Golems. The other three I think are wasted… I can spend them for Healing to discard any Wound cards I may have missed, but I think I am at full health and have healed my only wounded unit.
That’s it! GG everybody, I am curious to see the final scoring!
There’s also your 3 influence from shields on city, and the city effect of 2 influence to reveal a new elite unit.
(For others, note that the fire golems are only available in the white city, not cities in general)
No influence for healing in cities.
Oooh… so I have a total of 14 Influence? Okay, start by spending 2 to reveal a new Elite Unit.
If it’s better than the Fire Golems (for final scoring) I’ll recruit them. Otherwise stick with what I said. Thanks!
At the end of the game
55 Braevalar
52 Wolfhawk
50 Goldyx
+9 fame each for the tie on cities
+10 to Goldyx for greatest knowledge
+10 to Braevalar for greatest knowledge
+5 to Wolfhawk for knowledge
+3 to all for greatest loot
+14 to Wolfhawk for greatest leader
+7 to Goldyx for leadership
+2 to Braevalar for leadership
+9 to Goldyx for greatest conqueror
+4 to Wolfhawk for conquering
+4 to Braevaler for conquering
+5 to Braevaler for greatest adventurer
+5 to Wolfhawk for greatest adventurer
+2 to Goldyx for adventuring
-5 to Goldyx for greatest beating
All of which means, if I am not mistaken…
Wolfhawk has come from behind to win!
Congrats to @Marx, thanks to all for playing.
Thanks so much for the nigh-infinite patience you’ve shown running this game, @Benkyo! I really appreciate it.
Also, 100% did not expect to win, but I’ll take it. Good game everyone!
Thanks for playing everyone and thanks @Benkyo for your patience and explanations
It’s a great game and I am happy I got to finally try it.
Argh so if I’d healed myself and not my troops I’d be joint lead?
Good game everyone, thank you, enjoyed that lots! And thanks very much @Benkyo for running and being patient with us!
Nope. You would have 3 more points, Marx and yashima would have 1 less. So, good enough to get 2nd, but still 3 behind the lead.
Thanks for the thanks, all. I had fun too!
This was based of a Vassal Module right? Is it one you wrote?
Yes indeed.
I’ve been thinking of game ancestry…
In some ways this reminds me of Magic The Gathering (very loosely and M:tG is probably an ancestor to tons of modern games) and looking forward I am sure Gloomhaven took inspiration here as well. These are just the obvious ones from my own limited experience?
Not really given much thought to lineage or imitators, but as far as I know, there (still) isn’t really much like it.
I’d have burnt down those monasteries, for sure.
As someone else who has never played but was following along: thanks to all the players and @Benkyo for the wonderfully clear explanations of what was going on. It was interesting to see the game in action.
(I did think about signing up to play but didn’t have much time to commit when it was getting started.)
It’s strongly reminiscent for me of Heroes of Might and Magic, feels like someone wanted to make a board game of that.
Now that you said it, I can’t help but agree…
