Might be me, but some of these don’t seem sufficient on the thematic front. This certain fixation on mechanisms from the entire hobby as a whole leaves these games to seem underwhelming.

I seemed to recall that the Nazi Kriegsmarine did, in fact, have an aircraft carrier, and a brief glimpse at Wikipedia seems to confirm that they had exactly 1 throughout the war: the Duke Zeppelin which hung out in the Baltic Sea for the entire war, was only ever 85% completed, and then sunk twice (once by the crew before the end of the war, and then she was raised by the Russians to be sunk again 17 months later in weapons testing).
Apparently they put down a hull for a second aircraft carrier, but never put it to sea?
I just recall reading something about Ze Germans attempting to have a proper Atlantic fleet. So… light fantasy? Semi-fantasy? I mean, growing up, one of my favourite arcade flight sims was “Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffe”, and it was all about Ze German jet planes, which weren’t fantasy so much as they were… very limited in scope? As memory serves, Ol’ MoustacheMadman didn’t like jets. Or assault rifles.
I digress.
this is the key really. Never became operational.
I mean, sure, imagine this is a whizzy new project, I’m all in for alternate histories, but that doesn’t seem like the feel the publishers have been going for so far.
(Many of the books on Nazi secret aircraft projects end most of them with “project cancelled by the Air Ministry”. I picture this as “yes, yes, Dieter, this will win us the war in three years, but a bomb fell through my roof this morning”.)
Indeed. As is said of Hollywood, the way to make a fortune is to be the first person to copy the guy with the great idea.
