Last game you bought?

It was on sale, so I got Project Elite. Ok, not buying more games starting froooooooooom, now! (at least I need to sell some first)

A dastardly sale assaulted me and forced me to buy Legacy of Dragonholt, A War of Whispers, and the Vth Element expansion for Big Book of Madness (truly it is madness to buy an expansion that makes a game I’ve never won harder).

Where was this sale?

To be clear, these were just perceived issues, and really only a concern in the first place because it was going to get played at 2P the vast majority of the time. Basically the game’s passenger economy works in a way that had me immediately concerned about an ugly meta with a routine opponent in the 2P space.

[EDIT] To put it another way, this wasn’t a problem with the game (in fact I think it’s the most exciting part of what Maglev offers; this is NOT a low interaction game like many are claiming), but a problem with how we’d generally be playing it. Not really zero sum at 2, per se, but something similar.

So Modern Art: The Card Game came. The cards are tarot sized with the name of the game on the back

Both my irrational card hates in one! The actual art on the cards is interesting, so I’m conflicted.

Decided to buy Fall of Rome to finish my Pandemic collection (minus the third expansion for the base game and Cthulu - who can be bothered?). Was hoping for a massive drop in price in sales like the other pandemics used to get, but now it’s just going up and up in price. Who pays Ā£50 for Pandemic?! It’s perverse! So figured it’s the time to settle.

Damn! Where was that from?

Amazon. Was a bit anxious that it’s a wonky buy but nope

UK prices are off the charts… 50?
I mean I paid 50 but in €

I do not have a lot of different pandemics except for the Legacy but I have really enjoyed my plays of Fall of Rome. Definitely need to get back to that one after Legacy 2.

Haven’t we talked about this just the other day?
To cheap for actual cardbacks, are they? In a game about art…

Yes, on Rocketmen.

The back would be great if not for the game name. It’s one of the art pieces in the game with the name slapped on top.

UK prices are, indeed, off the charts.

And what I didn’t realise coming into the hobby about a year ago was how 2nd-hand doesn’t drop those prices one bit.

Yeah, the MSRP of P:FoR is £50. In the real world is generally about £40-45 online, but even so, Pandemic used to be the game that was slightly cheaper than everything else.

With the (actual) Pandemic and brexit prices have definitely shot up in the last year or so. I’m sure there was quite a sharp rise in 2015 or so too. Boardgaming used to be a lot cheaper!

ā€œHow cheaply you could get it on amazon.com importā€ used to be a baseline beyond which local markups couldn’t go too far. Shipping went up, so amazon.com import prices went up, and local prices did too.

Went on a bit of an Easter rampage :see_no_evil:

Decrypto & Laser Drive - I just love it so. Someone in one of my game groups has it, but I’d like it for playing more generally. Beats Codenames now for my tastes. So much more open and funny. Got both together for Ā£21, so bargain!

Modern Art Card Game - had held off because Modern Art is already a card game and I will die on this hill etc etc. Then I found out it’s actually a reimplementation of a different auction game? So why not!

Cosmic Conflict & Alliance - The two last Cosmic Encounter expansions I don’t own. I’ve been acquiring the expansions bit by bit over the years - fodder for reaching free shipping thresholds and the like. Now I just have two more I thought I better buy them for security and to make sure I don’t make a mistake and accidentally reorder one I already own. A few friends want to play, so hopefully will play this a lot when lockdown ends.

Quacks Alchemists chucked it in with the cosmic expansions to get the discount and compile shipping costs. It’s quacks, I’m sure it’ll be a laugh.

I’m eying up Summoner Wars, Anno 1800, and possibly Blood on the Clocktower. Think that might be my year sorted :grimacing:

I only bought my copy during the pandemic… so it is sitting here unplayed as I refuse to try and teach it to people over voice chat. Cannot wait to finally play that one.

For people’s first game, they almost always go for quite obvious clues that build together for solid guessing from the opponent. It’s the second game that makes things crazy!
