In search of a word

Industrial engineering has a word or phrase to describe the process in
which all of a thing ends up in the wrong place. For example, all
your umbrellas eventually end up at the office, because you take it in
in the morning when it’s raining or predicted to rain, but leave it
behind because you don’t need it when you leave.

Lots of other resources end up following the same pattern for similar
reasons. Anyone know what this is called?

For phrases, misplaced inventory, resource misallocation, misdirected resources, that sort of thing?

Sounds like the sort of thing that might have been discussed in Operations but no, no bell ringing.

If we can take a stab at coining a new phrase, I offer Junk Gyre.

What I’m taking from this is you own multiple umbrellas…

Is it the Umbrella Convergence?

Perplexity.ai also suggests: catchment area or aggregation zone.

As a German I would like to propose: Regenschirmsammelpunkt

I asked chatgpt for some German stuff. It came up with

  • Chaoszone
  • Krimskramsecke (things corner)
  • Wuselpunkt ( scurrying-point)
  • Dingemagnet (things magnet)
  • Wohnungsbermudadreieck (apartment bermuda triangle)
  • Allesablager (everything everywhere all at once)

Personally, I like the Wohnungsbermudadreieck
