If there are any laws about passengers drinking alcohol in the UK, I am unaware of them!
Also, aren’t open containers the only ones it’s possible to drink anything from? Drinking from closed ones is usually unsuccessful…

That’s the idea: you can carry a bottle of beer to drink at home, but not open it to refresh you in your travels.
So, yesterday, much of Spain and large parts of France and Portugal lost electricity causing all sorts of problems in many areas, including shutdown of communications systems, travel links, electronic banking/payment systems etc. Luckily we weren’t too badly affected locally; yes, we couldn’t do any work online and had a few issues getting hold of arriving tourists, and had to drive a few minutes to get a mobile phone signal, but after about 6 hours our power was back on and the internet networks came back on for us early this morning, and much of Spain at least is back to normal now. Could have been so much worse of course had it gone on for much longer, if it was much colder or warmer than spring here is, or if we had friends/family needing electricity for medical support. The conspiracy theorists locally are already speculating but we’re thankful all seems fine again. We did have to find another 24-hour emergency vet though for one of our cats, as the normal one had no power in their block so couldn’t open, but our little lad is on the mend now. Plus we now have a few solar panelled lamps and a portable radio on standby for any future outages.
Speaking of Spain, I realize that @Chewy77 hasn’t been around much. I wonder how he is doing?
I had recently (a month ago) sent a PM and received no answer -.- I really hope he’s just in a gaming slump.
5 year anniversary badge. Wow
Up really late with my younger kiddo, who was vomiting and having diarrhea. Thankfully it seems to be mostly done, but he’s still having little…spurts.
OH! I’ve always been tempted to do that route. I’ve done the Cumbria Way a couple of times. And yes, that’s daft. WHy not do a different route?
You know what sounds good?
Precedented Times.
I could really go for some precedented times.
That would be unprecedented.
I could do without every single bit of news the news is trying to tell me right now.
I did go and eat Georgian food in London though, that was good.
Couple of good things:
Yesterday, we had a wrestling work-out at my BJJ school. It was super fun, very intense and had a very scary moment for me when I sprawled to stop a takedown and I swear I could feel my right knee (the one I injured quire a few years ago) bend sideways. It also gave a loud pop. It seemed to be okay, I finished the class at a lower intensity and dreaded how it would feel once the joint stopped being warm. Well, it seems to be fine. No pain, no stiffness, no instability. So just a bit of a freak-out on my part. Hurray!
Much, MUCH more importantly, today was Maryse’s latest follow-up appointment with her oncologist. All is stable still, the doctor is ecstatic at her bloodwork, next appointment is 15 September though she needs to go back earlier to get a CT scan so we can have more data to discuss. HURRAY!!
I like how the Cumbria way is billed as “a great introduction to long distance walking” at 73 miles in 5 days. I could barely walk at the end of day two of Hadrian’s wall
The start of the Way and the end are a bit numb, but in between it is a great linear route. I’ve done it in three days, wild camping, but it hurt. The last trip was four days - however I did take a half day break toward the end at a Bothy - the rain was driving me mad so I just stopped.
Drying my kit and watching the horizontal rain blow past the door was magic. I’ve never been more content.
Just as a reminder to do your due diligence…
I just had to block my credit card because I tried to book a vacation rental through a website I only realized afterward is probably … most likely … 95% sure … scammers.
In addition to having to wait for a new credit card … I will have to wait until they “take” the money and then go to the police and show them and only then can my bank get money from the insurance. It is incredible.
edit: the worst thing is, the way this works is that the scammers actually seem to get the money. I called my bank within 30 minutes. Processing the payment will take through the week-end and probably be done on monday, HOW IS IT NOT POSSIBLE to prevent the money from getting to the scammers within that timeframe?
I bought Res Arcana through a scam website. I think I told the story before, but my efforts to figure out what was happening (for my own sake) and document it (to help others) resulted in the police knocking on my door.
That does seem unusual - here at least there is a long delay between when you make the charge and when the vendor is paid. The scam I fell for involved them trying to string you out as long as possible (they actually shipped envelopes to random houses in your neighborhood so you had a tracking number and could see this thing moving toward you), all with the goal of running out the clock to get the cash before buyers contest the charge.
I once bought a pair of headphones on eBay that I was 99% sure were fakes (someone got ahold of the headphone body from the factory in China and added cheap drivers… a common problem at the time, probably still).
I was pretty sure I was cooked on the whole deal; but as luck would have it, the acceptable delivery window expired before the parcel arrived and I was able to file an eBay claim and get my money back.
The parcel arrived at customs the next day and I eventually did receive it; confirmed 100% fake, but also free.
The scammer was so upset that his well-executed scam was foiled by international parcel service.
Nobody asked me why I bought them if I was 99% sure. I see what kind of faith you all have in my decision making abilities!
The reason I bought them was for the body, because I had a broken pair where the drivers were in good working order, but the body was beyond repair.
