General Asynch Recruiting Thread

The problem with COIN games, fundamentally, is that they try the Cuba Libre formula (or Andean Abyss formula, if you prefer it that way) but fails because they’re just trying to do a CL but with a different spin and/or with different player counts.

I’ve only played one of them, Falling Sky, and only solo.

To me it’s a big sandbox where you just let things happen and you try your best to steer things in your favor; like playing football (soccer) with a marionette.

Well…I mean…what else should keep the other player in check in a head-to-head game? This same complaint can be made of games with more than two players, like Root, where the players have to keep each other in check and if one person doesn’t do their job, one faction is liable to run away with the game.

In any event, Gest of Robin Hood feels like a sort of entry-level to COIN style games as it aims for more of a 60-90 minute play time, limits it to two players, and from what I understand is not as complicated as other COIN entries. Whether or not that time frame qualifies as a “short” game is, of course, subjective

I am interested in playing but need to be near a computer for this one rather than on the phone!

Agreed. I played the tutorial on my phone and it was…rough.

Another head to head game, but this one is incredibly short.

Well I was hilariously bad at that! We finished our async, multi time zone game in about 20 minutes!

We can try again if you’d like a chance for vengeance.

Well, I just got stomped like an ant in Ginkgopolis. Roughly half the score of the third place finisher, maybe 1/3 of the winner.

I noticed a dearth of resource generating cards coming my way and didn’t really like the scoring cards I saw either. Who was to my right? I’m sure there was a strategy to switch to, but I haven’t learned it yet

I’m reminded of Isle of Skye where you’re on the back foot if people buy all your tiles. Big money/no tiles is by no means a death sentence, but it requires a much better understanding of the game and a subtler approach. There’s so much more of this game to discover.

Also @Whistle_Pig sniped my giant red district on the last turn :stuck_out_tongue:

I’ll launch another on Monday of anyone wants more! I do.

Couldn’t resist :ninja:

I’m really surprised. I had a rocky start because I misremembered the rules but felt like I was making up ground the rest of the game. In reality, my initial misplay may have influenced the game in ways I don’t really know, and that might have thrown off the play of the others in that area. Hard to be certain.

Happy with a silver on this.

I bet this shines on the table during in-person game nights.

What a great game!

Ha. I rarely get much traction when I launch a BTS table, though I don’t know why. I already have serial games running with another group, so not this time. It’s my new New Frontiers and I’m finding it much, much harder to figure out. I just can’t get the balance right between economy, research, and colonization.
