After an immensely long wait out Corrupted Decks from a Wyrmwood Kickstarter arrived. They are very beautiful and great quality but the wait and the price… make Wyrmwood hard to recommend. We have some of their dice as well. Great product but very expensive as well.
I think this deck is extremely pretty, and the art is too detailed for the overview, so I’ve added a bunch of closer looks. (Although the official site has excellent quality images at The Fellowship of the Ring™ Playing Cards – just open the embedded images in a separate tab, or download them, to see them full-sized. Most of mine are comparatively fuzzy.)
They have also released decks for The Two Towers and The Return of the King; but from what I could see online this first one was the one I liked the best of the three, and I don’t think I need all of them, so I didn’t order the others.
My Regicide game got off to a terrible start, as I wasn’t paying attention and lost a joker to the Jack of Diamonds of all things. Furthermore I was mostly failing to deal exact damage and, mid way through the Queens, I had completely drained the Tavern and was desperately trying to heal enough cards to keep drawing. But I managed to corrupt a few of them along the way, and my burning desire for the One Ring kept my head above water, and ultimately I defeated the Fellowship without even losing my Balrog, and all is right once more in Middle Earth.
“You did not seriously think that a Hobbit could contend with the will of Sauron; there are none that can.”
Folk-horror playing cards. That link gives the best view of the court card artwork, as the artist has produced them all as 5x7" prints as well, and that link shows photos of the prints. On the main campaign page there are descriptions of each of those images under the menu item/heading “Day and Night Panels”. I think these are gorgeous!
