I’m participating in the BGG secret Santa this year, and although my giftee has a bunch of stuff on his wishlist, he is also looking for things he could introduce to his girlfriend:
So far, we’ve tried Machi Koro, Oh My Goods, Kingdomino, The Crew, and Codenames Duet. Of those, Kingdomino and Codenames have made it back to the table, and she’s even occasionally proposed playing Codenames herself. The Crew might get another shot when we have friends over.
From our discussions, it seems she really enjoys cooperative games and is definitely more into friendly and chill experiences over competitive or cutthroat ones. She also seems to prefer games that aren’t too long or overly complex (though I think she’d handle a more complex game just fine if it clicked for her).
My husband and I only play vicious 2-player games, so nothing in my collection is likely to go down well Any suggestions? I wondered whether Dorfromantik would fit the bill
Some that come to mind:
Coop: Landmarks (2 might be pushing it), Flash Point, FUSE, Spirit Island
Competitive but not confrontational: Sea Salt & Paper
(Horizons of) Spirit Island or Pandemic (Legacy) for a friendly co-operative experience?
I’ve not played it, but didn’t Sky Team win the SdJ this year? Two player co-operative, not sure about chill from the description though!
Dorf is very chill. currently the only game my partner is playing with me 2 player. and it’s still more than interesting enough for me . so interesting that I’ve played it solo as well a bunch of times. I prefer the new pink edition.
I agree with all this. Pandemic is highly rated for a reason and is always a great not-too-heavy co-op. Legacy or any of the standard versions that might appeal based on theme are all great options.
Spirit Island is a big step up in complexity but the Horizons version brings that back down some.
Haven’t played Sky Team but have heard wonderful things.
Other suggestions: any of the Sherlock Holmes Consulting Detective boxes for a cozy two-player puzzle or any of the Horrified boxes for something more complex than basic Pandemic but easier than Spirit Island.
