I use straight pins and Elmer’s white glue / glue all. It’s basically the same as kids / school glue but slightly less runny so dries faster.
After many years of using glue that was acclaimed as great but ended up being a bit rubbish, I have to say that hot glue has been a revelation to me. (But I have no idea how well it would work on foamcore.)
Do you know about super glue activator/accelerator? I never had any luck with CA glue until I started using it.
Some kind of white glue called “Bastelkleber” that I bought in an art supplies store and pins to hold it all together. It’s a bit on the messy side but the stuff washes right off everything that it isn’t supposed to be on so there’s that.
Also I really want to find the time to make a few inserts. Because I have games that need them to function.
I just use Ayleen’s super tacky craft glue. If I’m being precise, I use sewing pins to hold things while they dry.
I’ve been getting more into reboxing and double boxing. I hate it, but at the same time I can’t really play any faster, to make more sell decisions, and I’m out of space.
The first culprit was Nations. That went into my Concordia Salsa box after Salsa went into the Concordia base box.
Got folded space inserts for Roll for the Galaxy and Isle of Skye, to lose the expansion boxes. Both are tight fits, even with the inserts, but it works.
Then we get to the really tough stuff:
- Condottiere and Havoc: The Hundred Years War go into The King is Dead
- Puerto Rico goes into New Frontiers
- 6 Nimmt goes into Parade
- Libertalia goes into Mission: Red Planet
- Nuns on the Run goes into Whitehall Mystery
- Blue Lagoon goes into Babylonia
…maybe some others…
If you see the connections, I try to put like with like. And I try to put a game that is close to the chopping block into a game that’s more marquee in my collection. The goal is that, if you are double boxed, some day soon I’ll choose just one.
Still, in the end, having a game in the wrong box really bothers me and I hope for some more shelf space in the next “shuffle all the things” episode in our house so I can get back to a shelf full of well-labeled air.
Oh, and I forgot. Blue Moon City fits into the Flamme Rouge Peloton expansion box. sigh How can you argue with that space saving? Rules go into Ethnos, as the games are similar, and I’ll push to some future date which one gets to stay permanently.
Pin it, using straight pins, to hold it while standard PVA glue dries. I tend to make a box or tray then put a couple of books on it.
There is a really good guide at… erm… Using Foamcore: Part 2 – The Esoteric Order of Gamers
The Folded Space (they do premade foam core inserts) website says to use woodglue and after switching to that I gotta say I like how much faster it dries. It feels like it holds better too.
Another vote for speedy super glue.
If it sticks my fingers in seconds then it’ll do the same for foam (and it always sticks my fingers!)
- PVA Glue (Wood glue/White glue)
- Superglue

I really, really want to know!
Super glue doesn’t always play nicely with foam, so it’s out for me.
Glass road was a very kind Christmas gift from the in-laws, and I’ve just got round to an insert for it so it might actually get played.
Almost got all the tokens to fit nicely, except those few tucked at the side.
I’d hoped to do little player trays for the cards and resources, but alas there was no room thanks to the resource boards plastic hinge things making stacking awkward.
Super glue obviously, no class here
Ugh. Dials are the worst for packing away but they’re so nice to play with.
Latest box shrinkage, dice added instead of the banners and the superfluous but lovely board has been left in the big box.
Small foamcore assembly inside to follow
EDIT
I’m 50:50 on tracing the numbers on the pink dice in black…
If they’re recessed then you can use a crayon rubbed over the surface to fill the number and get a neat finish by wiping the flat surfaces clean afterwards.
Crayons! we have loads, are talking a wax crayon or a ‘normal’ one?
I don’t think it makes much difference
That’s how I had to colour in my first ever D&D dice! Ah they were the days
The store I bought my first d&d dice at sold dice with unfilled numbers. They had a jar in f crayons so you could do it yourself with whatever color.
