What worries me is that I have a clearer, better recollection of many of the adverts that I saw during the 80’s than I do the programmes I watched.
There’s an element of the repeated nature of the adverts there, but it’s also due to the skill that good adverts are put together with to make them memorable.
I can still remember the phone number for Coldseal Windows from a radio advert about 30 years ago! “Coldseal Windows are the best, Double 2, Double 1 Double 5!!” - I struggle to remember what I ate for lunch yesterday…
I can (and occasionally do) sing the full* 30 second jingle for a sewing machine brand which was advertised on TV in the 70s and 80s. It was just burned into my brain at a particular age (I guess when the sewing machine market warranted significant TV advertising budgets, and I was watching a lot of TV). I’ve never purchased a sewing machine, but if I ever decide to do so… I’ll feel pretty much obligated to include them in my considerations :).
(*) Almost. There’s two words I could never make out, so I have to mumble that bit.
I should possibly clarify that this was a supervillain I made for Golden Heroes. He didn’t get out much and was unaware of any other connotations of the word.
‘So you can imagine that went down faster than a rat sandwich. [loooong silence] I think I was thinking of drainpipes but going the other way. I‘m such a dickhead sometimes.’
