Are the cards used for more than one scenario? If so, it would make sense for a multiple culprit one.

Yes, it potentially makes more sense with multiple culprits, but it would also still need to potentially be a self-referential statement in that situation, otherwise it would be inconsistent with how it’s handled in single-culprit cases.

Iguana’s statement is only self-referential in the case that iguana is the culprit. It still provides vital information in ruling out the other suspects.

For example, if iguana’s statement was replaced with “I am telling the truth” the whole case falls apart because bear becomes a valid culprit (shark, iguana and horse lying).

I’ll get game 2 underway this week. Anyone can play (and you don’t need to decide up-front whether to take part – if you submit solutions, you’re playing :).

For planning purposes, though, what would you prefer?

• Two more games (2 cases from each dossier; 13-16, and 17-20)
• Two more games (one for 2 culprit cases (13-18); one for 3-culprit cases (19-20))
• One game (1 case from each of dossiers 13-20), and then reassess to see if people want another.

As before, each game will comprise 8 cases.

You don’t need to have taken part in game 1 (but I do recommend you work through some of those cases first). If you intend to play and have not yet voted on the format for game 2, please do so. I’m in for game 2, but I’m tired now and I’ll be offline all weekend, so don’t wait for me.

Thanks to running this, it occurred to me that for a day of events and general fun times that my company has each year, I could set up a collection of ACDI cases.

All I needed to do was test and select another 10 cases, photograph them, figure out how to manipulate those and all the prior photos to have a plain white background for printing, tidy up the images, add in the dossier criteria to each one, further edit a bunch of the images to move the cards around so that the criteria would fit, print them out, find that the aspect ratio was poor for several of them, edit even more to move more cards around to fix that and re-print them, write a brief back-story suitable for my company, invent acronyms for a detective agency and a villainous organisation, make a poster based on the classic picture of Lord Kitchener, write detective training documentation featuring my cats as Chief Inspector Morse and P.I. Marlowe, figure out how to lay out all the text and images, make a labelled box for case reports to be ‘posted’ into, glue things which needed to be glued, pin all of the information to a wall, and get to the train station just in time for the last train home. Easy! Definitely wouldn’t have done it if I’d known how much work it would be :). (On the plus side, I can set it up again next year with almost no effort at all.)
