Huzzah! I finished a game from my list for the first time in… well, since 2019 at the very least!
Maybe I should replace it with a new addition… hmmm… oh! I’m going to add Battletech to the list. We’ll see if I can finish 10 plays of 10 games that are on the list by the end of the year.
Right. My City was a joy to play and finish. It was pretty close up until Chapter 6 when I started having spiralling victories, so much so that I had to start playing poorly just to make sure Andy didn’t get blown out of the water. But aside from that, great fun.
We’re playing D&D tonight, so I’m including it in the tally, but we usually meet every other week or so for 2-3 hours. It’s still a lot of fun, but the group is starting to mutter about playing different rule sets. I’m okay with that, but I’m curious what kind of game they want to play. I might suggest Mouseguard… I’ve had the box set sitting downstairs for probably 5 years now. Might be nice. But likewise Andy might want to suggest Coyote & Crow, which I’ll admit sounds fascinating, but I haven’t checked the rules. Oh, and of course we could play either Blades in the Dark or Scum and Villainy… anyways, the moral of that story is there are no shortage of options.
Was supposed to play Oathsworn on Sunday, but it was snowed out. Ah well.
Other than these, I managed to get an online BGA game of Lost Ruins of Arnak in with the folks that were snowed out of coming over for Oathsworn, and that was neat, plus a bunch of games of Splendor. And two games of Battletech, which it turns out is great fun (even if Nick has a somewhat annoying habit of hitting my mechs right in the cockpit with an AC20… for reference, an AC20 does 20 points of damage, and the heaviest cockpit in the heaviest mech in the game has 13 points of health. Sooooo…
But you gotta laugh at stuff like that. It’s not a serious game.
Managed to actually play a game of Renature, a gift from a friend it wasn’t a good fit for. It’s… nice? A bit mean for my personal tastes, but I can see why people really like it. Good fun. Not sure it’ll stay in the collection, but I’m glad we tried it.
Heat is really easy to solo play, if you have trouble getting people to play it, and it doesn’t take very long. So you should have no problem getting 10 plays of it in the year.
Plenty of opportunities taken in January. All were enjoyed, even the dubious looking Pluckin’ Pairs, which arrived in a rather disappointing mystery box last year.
My 2023 goals are pretty much the extended goals I upgraded to last summer for 2022. Hopefully I’ll be able to boost some of them up a touch again this summer.
Also aiming to make a bigger dent on the unplayed (at start of year) list this time.
