I don’t know why The King Is Dead ETA: The Old King’s Crown doesn’t appeal, but I think putting it here in Thematic games may be part of it: it’s described as thematic, but you could call this a fight for control over the galactic empire and leave the mechanics the same.
I’ve heard good things about earlier editions of March of the Ants. Might give this a try.
Wroth: my eyes hurt but at least it’s not Bitoku.Again, how is this “thematic” when the theme is derived entirely from the game rules?
Brink: looks quite fun if overproduced with the Game Trayz, but ok, I’m just not going to say this any more. “thematic” to me means it’s mechanically tied to a specific setting that has some notional existence beyond the game, not that you painted moons on the board. I might actually enjoy this but I’d call it “very nearly abstract”.
Children of the Colossi: I like the action tree.
Gods & Mortals: looks potentially fun, especially if the design is restrained a bit.
Kinfire Council: all right, that does it do that dozens of other games don’t?
Ice: decent gimmick. Is it a good game?
After a bit I start to notice every time Tom describes something as “little”.
Shug: maybe too consciously quirky?
We All Take From the River: might be fun.
Ahoy (expansions): if this works in all combinations it might revive my interest.
Farms Race: I like the parody idea, but it’ll need more to be worth buying. I’d at least take a look.
Obviously you mean Old King’s Crown, but I do agree with your point.
I thought Gods and Mortals looked pretty interesting, and the semi-coop aspect of Kinfore Council piqued my interest. I am pretty sure the only other semi-coop I have is Dead of Winter, and while I like it, it goes too long and kind of wears out it’s welcome in larger groups.
Currently still watching it.
Old King’s Crown - backed. Still waiting
March of the Ants - backed this. Still waiting
Children of the Colossi - cool theme buut looks Euroy
Gods & Mortals - I’M SOLD! I LOVE IMPERIAL. And it’s the people who did Guards of Atlantis?? Yeah go on!
Yeah. It’s themeless. It’s basically “pastel El Grande with asymmetry”. It was fine when I played it.
EDIT: SHUG - hmm SHUG looks TOO experimental. But i like that they are trying rather than the same Euro remix as usual
This video contains the most games I’m backing / interested in. If the direct week has taught me anything it’s that I put a lot more weight on theme than I thought I did.
