Wot are you playing (video games)

I’ve got this on your recommendation and it’s great. I’ve named them after my friends and it’s quite fun watching them slosh around in dirty infected water whilst they struggle to breathe.

Who’d have thought that Deep Ones would make the ideal space colonists?

So apparently the relentless horniness in BG3 is due to a bug resulting in the characters having very low standards…

And someone seems to have found a bug in Starfield: sometimes you can restore a save and find you can’t make any ranged attacks. Apparently the work-round is to change your character’s sex.

I found it a little off-putting to say the least. However the game is 18+ afaik so I thought maybe it’s just me… I had expected there to be more story to it after how forward Lae’zel was behaving.

Yes, apparently the end-points of the romances occurred much more quickly than they were supposed to, although I have to admit many of the reviews I read seemed to assume this was a feature, not a bug,

Thanks for this recommendation, it (Rift Wizard) is in a Steam sale currenty for about £8 so I grabbed it, been throughly enjoying it as a sitraction from covid. Not getting far but I’m enjoying experimenting!

As of last night, I “finished” Super Mario Odyssey. By this, I mean I found all power moons, all purple coins, and purchased all the goods needing purple coins. The Odyssey’s sail turned a metallic gold color afterwards, so the game recognizes it as an achievement as well.

Now I just need to collect oodles and oodles of normal coins to get the remaining outfits, which I may not finish considering how expensive some of them are.

is this something I can play while my code is compiling?

asking for my IDE.

It’s turn based so I should think so!

Turn-based and save+exit at any time. Wizzard!

There’s an unnecessary but nice-to-have user-made bugfix mod that you can add to smooth out some surprising wrinkles in the code. I do want to emphasize that this isn’t necessary, but with all the huge number of potential interactions going on, some things you might never notice don’t work exactly as described, and this patch fixes them (without changing anything else):

I’m not playing Starfield (not particularly interested) but I do like this bug-exploiting ship design.

Seems that NPCs always aim for the centre of mass of your ship…

Haha, I saw that, thought it was great. I started playing Starfield, but my laptop is just too old. Even on low settings.

I started playing Starfield too, on the Xbox. It runs fine but… I just can’t be bothered. Either I’m too old or I’ve already played this game before in various versions or it’s just not very gripping. I think a combination of all of those things.

I’m feeling that. Or, I suspect I would be feeling that, if I hadn’t already written off the entire category of such games a long while back.

(Meanwhile, here’s me still trying to get achievements in Rift Wizzard.)

Yes, Rift Wizard is much more enjoyable to me now. Maybe it’s ‘cos Starfield came on the gamepass for ‘free’ so I was curious to try it. I do find I’m much less invested in stuff when it feels like I didn’t pay for it, I think this may be a general human trait. Regardless, I’m glad I didn’t buy Starfield. I’m losing patience with exploring other people’s stories now - I’d rather just read a book and I don’t read much fiction nowadays, and the ‘game’ parts all feel the same. That said, I finished a solo run-through of Sleeping Gods (board game, not sure if there’s any computer games with the same name) and thoroughly enjoyed it. There, at least, some work is done by my imagination, and the actual game parts are much more interesting than ‘juggle these 354633 inventory items, fast travel and shoot stuff’.

Me too, tried it on game pass. Even allowing for my crappy system, I just wasn’t getting into it. I started playing Outer Worlds instead, having more fun with that.

I thought I would really like Surviving Mars, having greatly enjoyed Cities: Skylines by the same studio, but couldn’t get into it. Maybe I just enjoy optimizing vehicle traffic more than anything else. I still run some OpenTTD (Train Tycoon) from time to time, so yeah, that’s probably it.

I knew that Elite: Dangerous would be addictive for me, and finally took the plunge. Greatly enjoying its great big sandbox. Currently running a medium-large freighter as my cash cow, and getting ready to grind enough favors for a permit to visit old Sol and look around. Even bought a very fancy joystick for immersion, but Some Assembly Required and I haven’t gotten around to it yet.

BG3 sounds great. If Skyrim is any indication, I’ll hold off for 5 years, then start playing it obsessively.

Well for one thing it’s not by the same studio.

Paradox is the publisher for both but they publish a lot of things. Cities Skylines is by Colossal Order, Surviving Mars is by Haemimont.
