Work event was at the new Quentin Blake centre for illustration. It’s awesome. Wish us luck. Ferry back to mainland got canceled due to a storm the likes of which haven’t been seen here kn the past 10 years. We rebooked to another type of ferry. Our flight home is tomorrow night. Ah the adventures of individual traveling. Luckily our place lets us stay a little after normal checkout time. the new ferry goes at 2 am if it goes. our hosts will be on it, too. We also had rain at the start of our stay that turned streets into rivers and lakes. Not sure the Aegean is good for travel in late September (the locals assure us it would normally be much nicer). For a summer extension we should have stayed home. I am thoroughly sick of the howling of the wind. And I do not know yet how we will pass the next 12+ hours until the ferry leaves … we have no cabin so sleeping in the seats is gonna be great. and then we arrive at 6:40 in the morning take an hour long train ride to the airport and spend a day there waiting for our flight … i am too old for this stuff ---

We had been speculating that Zeus was mad since our rainy Acropolis visit. Though we did pay a very expensive entry fee to see the Zeus temple as well. No idea whats wrong. We didn’t even take any of the statues from the Parthenon (The Acropolis museum has some very passive aggressive empty spaces for the Elgin marbles in their displays… by the way that museum is one of the best I have ever visited from a didactic point of view.) Right now the one ferry we had originally booked tickets for for today claims they will operate tomorrow and they will tell us more by 6pm. The other ferry we booked tickets on this morning has asked passengers in Heraklion (Crete) to proceed boarding at 2100 as planned but also told us the trip is canceled. They say they will update us at 2000 when the current „sailing ban“ in Piräus (port of Athens where we want to go) is ending. the weather reports and Claude claim last night was the worst wind and tomorrow should be a bit better and Sunday weather should be „fine“ for newly adjusted values of „fine“. Claude also claims that the big ferry from Heraklion skipped the Milos stop the past two nights either because the small harbor in Milos is too difficult (it is a huge natural harbor in which a variety of ships are currently seeking shelter) or because of timetable issues because of the expected 4 to 6 meter waves because of the 100 kmh galeforce winds (today I learned that the scale with which winds are measured is called Beaufort scale, I had not known the name though, the rest I was aware of) which is between 9 and 10 currently. Googling for storm news we have realized this is not totally uncommon weather at this time of year … every local has different claims what constitutes normal weather it seems. Oh and we are back in our original accommodation for some extra money even though officially they are closed. if we get to leave tonight I will (at this point) still count the money well spent. the line to find accommodation for tonight stretched half through town for many hours. I dislike having to spend a bunch of extra money, being unable to cancel a hotel near the airport for tonight ….and worrying about the flight and how much more money we will need to spend. But we are lucky that we are not going to be broke because of this. But no more island vacations in the near future. Odyssee update: we are booked on a ferry for Sunday (instead of original Friday departure) i made the booking in the middle of the night when one more check showed the Festos Palace ferry still in Heraklion ans we had no assurance that when it eventually sailed our tickets would be valid. The spots on the Katamarans were going fast and all weather reports agree that the storm will lessen tonight at the earliest. I was also able to rebook our flight via chat in the Lufthansa app (for a fee but that is assumed… first time we ever had to do this) in the middle of the night to calm my frayed nerves…. and we were able to extend our stay at the very comfortable accommodation we had for yet another night even though our hosts are leaving the island tonight with the apparently now scheduled for 6pm Festos Palace. This is really too much excitement for me. But we have a full day today without needing to do much and i will only miss Monday at work. I had also mentally allocated a mitigation budget and we are well below that even with having to get 2 more days of restaurant food pending a bunch of promised refunds. The airport hotel cancelled our booking and so we are probably not paying that money which is very nice of them. (I know for a fact that when accommodation cancels through [booking.com](http://booking.com), they receive no money) ---

I highly recommen not ever booking a ferry with seajets.gr they have the WORST communication. We are now back to Minoan lines to leave the island tonight at 2am. This is ticket #4. I really hope we get refunds from seajets for two canceled trips. ---
