Every game is a game. They’re all just games.
So my recommendations for some games were successful. Beacon Patrol, Harmonies and Res Arcana will be presented to various members of my extended family
I think Beacon Patrol, like Carcassonne, is an excellent recommendation for anyone who doesn’t already have it. Unlike Carcassonne, a lot of people don’t already have it!
Surely its only successful if said recipients LIKE the game?
“Which?” magazine in the UK has a “best boardgames to buy people!” article, and the answers are…
Catan, Carcassonne, Ticket to Ride, original Pandemic, Dixit, Jaipur, Patchwork… which could have been the list in approx 2014, not 2024.
They do also have Fox in the Forest Duet, 7 Wonders Duel (out of date with LotR duel already, surely?) Codenames, Sushi Go Party and The Mind, but still.
Is that really the list in 2024? Or even 2020?
Yeah. I would still recommend those. And whats good about those is that they are available from retail.
As long as Monopoly, Clue(do), Sorry and such are not on there, I’ll consider it valid.
on that note i just stumbled on this list of bestsellers over at bgg
how have i never seen this feature before? how is it made? edit: ah I see there are shoplinks
but it shows a bit of a similar trend how some of the bestselling games are quite „old“
it seems a realistic enough sample anyway. interesting too.
I think it’s fair in a list like that to concentrate on games which have stayed the course and proved themselves genuinely popular among real people (ie not nerdy geeks like us). Better than recommending the latest hot fuss amongst nerdy geeks like us which often turns out in a few months not to have been worth the hype!
