This is my perception of him after only ever seeing him in Top Gear and Grand Tour.
Your description of this makes me want to track this down. Definitely my kind of show, I think.
Youtube seems to have most of the episodes. About 30 minutes or an hour each and only two short series made if I recall.
I don’t recall seeing the portable record player episode - so that’s tonight’s dinner time viewing sorted!
Makes him so much more relatable though.
Jeremy Clarkson is funny in the outrageous way that CaH is funny. James May‘s more self deprecating humor makes me feel less bad about myself when I laugh with him about some mishap that could have happened to me.
Tonight is the annual re-watch of The Crow, because it’s good to remember all the time spent on White Wolf games in the 90’s and laugh at my older self a bit.
Then starting up the new season of The Mandalorian.
Speaking of Tim Key, it’s that time again! WATSONATHON!
Just watched Hereditary for Halloween.
Girlfriend just watched Midsommar for Halloween and loved it, and now wants to watch Hereditary!
Midsommar was pretty great. It also holds the peculiar distinction of being the only film I’ve seen at the cinema where the pre-film trailers included one for a better version of the film I was about to watch.
(Cue me closing eyes and stuffing fingers in ears and going “lalalalala” to myself…)
I complained after and they agreed it was ludicrous, but said the timing for the Theatrical and Director’s Cut releases had ended up being really weird, and that their system unavoidably used the same set of trailers for every film they screened…
I watched Halloween (2018) for Halloween! I was shocked how well shot it was for a trashy horror film. Elevated it far above the script - was almost It Follows levels of beautiful cinematography. And also surprisingly non-gory for a slasher. Almost all the gore is either split second or out of shot. I enjoyed it!
Watching Disco Season 3. The last episode of S2 and the first two episodes of this one have been a real dip, but the third episode is starting to finally pull itself back together. Hopefully they can continue this momentum.
We also watched Let the Right One In. It is an incredibly deep and very touching film about a child who gets bullied. It is well worth a watch.
Was this the Swedish original or the American remake? We’ve seen the first but not the second; the one we saw was excellent.
Enjoying Altered Carbon Season 2. I liked the books and enough time has gone by for me to enjoy it as TV.
The original. It’s one of my partner’s favourite films and I’ve been too scared to watch it for like… Well over a year now.
I wasn’t aware of the remake, but I might check it out.
Watched a couple of episodes of Blood of Zeus last night on Netflix. Interesting take on Greek Mythology, if not technically amazing as anime, it still was quite enjoyable.
Update: Researched ‘Let Me In’, the American remake of Let the Right One In, and will not be watching it after they decided to make the non binary main character into a girl.
I have been really wanting to watch some horror movies/content. I’ve always loved them, but this is more in a way it helps my anxiety (I’ve heard an explanation that it puts feeling of unease in an appropriate context)
And my brother bought me a Shudder subscription for early Christmas!
Friday I watched The Mortuary Collection, different tales and a creepy Clancy Brown. A bit whimsical mixed with “what did I just see explode
?!?”. I liked it, tho I love me some Clancy Brown.
I also blitzed though American Horror Story 1984, which I really enjoyed, like a love letter to 80s horror. AHS can be hit and miss (I have seen all but Cult, because right after the 2016 it was too real) and to me it was hit. Felt a bit Cabin in the Woods which I loved
(Any Shudder subscribers have recommendations? Love Pin Head, a good build up, I don’t care for torture porn like Hostel or Rob Zombie)
I finished watching She-ra and the Princesses of Power the other day. It’s quite good. The final season is particularly good viewing and it’s got some great characters. Although (spoilers for the final season) I’m not completely convinced they did enough to explain Catra’s redemption - as much as I love her character, having her as the main antagonist for 4 seasons and then suddenly, in one or two episodes, turning that around completely seemed a bit convenient! It’s probably not in my top tier of ‘western’ cartoons (which would include the likes of Kipo, Steven Universe and Gravity Falls) but still a great watch.
I think Avatar is next on the list of clever cartoons to watch now - I’ve heard good things so hopefully it lives up to them!
