Topic of the Week: East Asia

No, it’s Japan. The rulebook explains that the panda was a gift from the Chinese Emperor.

(sorry, hadn’t noticed that @Whistle_Pig had dealt with this.)

I see a lot of lists here. So:
a) What is your favorite game set in this region?
b) Who makes best, or most interesting, use of the setting?

  • Most interesting use of the setting is definitely Pax Pamir. It’s such a good game but being a Wehrle, it is not something I get to play often. And (YMMV) the solo is meh at best.
  • Two cozy games that I enjoy are Let’s Go to Japan and Kanagawa and they aren’t even that thin on theme either.
  • Ghost Stories is a) pretty b) pretty brutal and c) the first cooperative game I ever acquired and as such wins the “special place in my collection” award
  • Miyabi wins the award for most unexpected → Haba normally makes children’s toys and games. Also it’s the tile-stacking game I am most likely to keep because the mechanism was quite interesting (it’s been years since I played but it left such an impression on me, it’s still solidly-on-the shelf)
  • Shinjuku gets the “most wanting to bring to the multiplayer table” achievement.
