Topic of the Week: Balance

Balance issue. This problem is often an issue with these modern Newros where there’s not enough interaction/agency for trailing players to disrupt the game state. Hence why I can understand the obssession of balance from players of this genre

Ah, yes, the same video said that Conjure Minor Elementals probably had a typo that will be corrected in an errata to lower that damage.

Funnily enough Chris (Treantmonk) just did a video which mentions fixing some of the 5e 2024 rough edges and it has Minor Elementals AND Woodland Creatures. (The WC was just some exploits around character movement to make it apply a lot).

I believe I’ve mentioned this case before, but one of my favourite examples of “unbalanced on purpose” is Memoir '44, where scenarios are very frequently in favour of one side. The mitigating factor is that the intention is for players to play each scenario twice, swapping sides, and the game plays quickly enough to make this practical. The lovely consequence of this is that the scenario designers have enormous freedom to do almost anything they like (hence the bazillion expansions), and scenarios can adapt real-world unbalanced situations to the game system without needing to worry greatly about the whole balance issue.
