The resurrected miniatures painting and showing off thread

Finished my YJ doctor. It was fun to paint but not my best work.

Tbh I think my main complaint with painting Infinity forces is most often feeling like I’m forced in to painting a boring pair of extra line troops. On the flip side I think it’s quite a cool conceit in the game that you have a blend of these elite ops forces shepherding some less combat focused specialists needed to do some cool tech research/disruption tasks. Gives a lot of tension which is also used a lot for dramatic purposes in action films so it makes the game really cinematic. Glad this one was a fun paint

Finished up all my Clan Mechs for Battletech…

Here are all of the minis, just after sealing them. They are all now safely stored in one of my mini display cases…

Anyone have any suggestions about how to make the bases look a little… more green? The static grass I have is totally the wrong scale (2mm, more or less, and it would make the Mechs look tiny).

Apologies for the photo dump, but I wanted to share some detail pics of this guy before I try not to screw him up with a paint job. This is the Frost Giant from Steam Forged Games’ Epic Encounters set. Reference goblin included for scale.

Wow, the detail on the guy is fantastic!!! Also, I knew he was a bigature, but…damn he huge!!! :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

I’m so tempted by those Epic Encounters, even though we don’t play any RPG’s (yet, but my son keeps asking). I feel like they would be great for stuff like Frostgrave (or even WarCry if I could make some cards).

SFG has Bardsung on KS right now, and while I’m not completely sold, they have said “they’d be stupid not to find a way to integrate the Epic Encounters into it at some point”. Has me even more intrigued…

I know SFG takes a lot of (mostly deserved) flak, but they’ve really been stepping up their game lately (in some cases). Godtear is fantastic, and these Encounters seem really cool. HZD has been getting mixed reviews, but Devil May Cry is apparently good fun (though it’s also designed by James Hewitt). Hopefully they keep going forward, because I’m liking a lot of what they’ve been doing.

SDG’s own IPs appear to be generally well received, especially Guildball and Godtear. It’s their horrific treatment of big franchise IPs that leaves a lot to be desired.

I just don’t get why their business model is in two halves! Videogame IPs probably don’t beg much repeat business, but surely building a reputable brand has to mean something to them? Axing Guildhall probably doesn’t help instill confidence in Godtear fans either!

I often joke that they run multi-million dollar licensed games to fund genuine passion projects.

Hopefully DMC does get received well, and they continue to work with outside designers as well.

Guild Ball had its own issues from what I understand. Part of that was that it was designed as an extremely balanced competitive game where power creep met with massive push back, so it had limited space to grow.

Speaking of Godtear though, new Champion in February!

I love Godtear as a game, but my infatuation with SFG has largely been with their art design. The minis have great details and are clearly sculpted with painting in mind, even though they are cast in colored plastic for those that don’t want to paint.

I’m excited about the Epic Encounters sets because they jive so well with how I run D&D with my students (in a normal year). Each set comes with an encounter guidebook that offers thematic direction, as well as an attack loop for the creatures.

What tipped the scales on this vs HZD, though, was the moment I saw that he had an entire deer strapped to his belt.

My FLGS guy told me about this one, but I hadn’t seen pics yet. This guy is fantastic.

I love the tech look and hawk minions. Still eager to see the new Shaper and Guardian though, beyond just artwork.

Some small lumps of clump foliage perhaps?

The entire series seems really need even just for the sculpts. They have the dragon boss, as well as fire kobolds and Frost orcs. Both sets of Warbands come with multiple classes and sculpts.

I don’t think anyone in Canada is carrying them yet, which is probably for the best! :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

Maybe down the road thorough as that Frost Giant would work as a really good proxy in a few games…

Stop talking up more games. I already have a load of infinity still in box! You lot will be the death of me (via the wife…)!

I’ve finished this little project now. I call it “Papa Smurf cooks dinner”.

I’m making good progress on this bust at the mo. Still some work to do on the cards and tidying up. Also on the back which I’ve not shown you! Any suggestions for bits that need work or ideas for improvements?

This guy marks my 200th painted model for 2020.

200 is quite the achievement!
Very impressive

I’m almost at the tipping point of painting more than I’ve purchased for the year as well, which in many ways is the more admirable achievement. One more model to paint and then I’ll be shrinking the unpainted pile of lead.

Don’t buy a 3d printer. You’ll never reach the tipping point again!
