I must confess that, having played it once, I had a pretty good time (and won, which always makes me feel more positive about a game), but it didn’t leap out to me as a Favourite Game the way e.g. Firefly did when I first played that.
Yes, I enjoyed playing it but I think the scarcity of it perhaps increased the legend of how good it is. Not a bad game at all but I couldn’t see myself playing it often.
Personally, considering the prices in my market, none.
Do I like to bling out my favorite games until they are expensive: yes.
Most games I consider „essential“ (definition might be needed) in 2026 are inexpensive.
While I have an “expensive games” thread:
Did anyone play Rococo Deluxe?
Because that looked gorgeous.
I enjoy this one. It’s a good Euro, but I wouldn’t pay 100 king’s quid for it.
I also prefer the older beige art of Michael Menzel which I can get for around 40 to 50.
Only PitchCar and Cthulhu Wars I would buy from my list if I’m starting all over again. As for Glory to Rome, I’m happy with the cartoony edition
Does anyone have thoughts on PitchCar Mini vs PitchCar? Would you happily get the small version if you didn’t have the big one?
It’s good, and much more transportable (my Pitch Car is all in an enormous storage box).
I don’t think you get quite as high highs with mini because you can’t yeet your car as hard, but it’s still fun
This is a good benchmark! In that case, I’d definitely pick up a copy of John’s Company 2nd Edition for >£100. Not sure I have other games where that’s the case, although I’m not sure whether any of my other games cost that much as a standalone. Including expansions some do, but JC is the one I’d definitely get again if something happened to it.
