They either break through to reach enlightenment, or bounce off, doomed to walk the Earth in disgrace. It’s not easy to face your reckoning, and you may not like what you see, but each of us must strive for salvation.
"Each round is divided into three stages:
- Scheming
- Villainy
- Monologuing"
I mean, it could be terrible and their comments on shipping don’t project confidence, but absolutely full marks to them for concept
I saw this one and definitely love the theme and setting; I’ll wait for a reprint- or expansion-Kickstarter so I can see a critical reception before getting involved.
We need more Saturday morning cartoon villains in the world, but they aren’t even in Saturday morning cartoons anymore.
Yeah, our real-world villains are too boring. What happened to writing your name on the moon with a huge laser?

I will say that it is a very rare game that is good at being both a cooperative game and a competitive game, so promising both leaves me a bit skeptical. Especially out of the starter box.
Imperial Assault is one of the few that works, and I say that admitting that the full coop is far from perfect.
I’m hoping that the upcoming Blacklist game, Dire Alliance pulls it off. Though I’m not overly worried as the VS mode is being designed by the team behind Undaunted (and is using a similar system), while the coop is being designed by the Sadler’s, and sounds like almost a different game just using the same components.
In need of retail therapy, I backed Way of the Samurai plus expansion. I remember talking the other day about only doing “safe bets” these days. This is not that, I know.
Note aside: Also in case there are other Keanu fans here. Don’t back that comic before studying how much they charge for shipping. I am not linking on purpose.
Backed mercado de Lisboa hoping that it acts as an appetiser that I can finally get big daddy Lisboa to the table proper. Also the Lisboa queen variant sealed the deal for my completionist sickness.
I’m gutted I’ve paid a WHOLE TWO BUCKS for the queen expansion with Kanban EV. What a fool I’ve been!
I don’t know if it’s the lockdown talking, but I’m finding myself more drawn to late pledging Aeons Trespass: Odyssey. The updates increase my confidence in the project, and there seem to be more people who play KDM saying that (a) it’s not simply a cheap KDM clone and (b) it’s just as good.
Seems like it could be one of those expensive KSs that ends up being stupidly cheap compared to later prices… you know, like KDM. Maybe a safe bet for easy sell on without loss if it doesn’t jive?
For the first time ever, I’m pledged to a Kickstarter for $1.
Maybe for pledge manager access, but mostly to keep tabs on Mercado de Lisboa.
It’s easily one of my top two most anticipated Kickstarter games at this point. To me, there’s some interesting things about what KD:M is doing but it seems way too random and arbitrarily punishing for my tastes, and the random boobage everywhere and juvenile substitutions for certain words (e.g. ding-dong for penis) aren’t exactly selling points either. Aeon Trespass: Odyssey feels like there’s more thought put into it, the setting is killer, and while I won’t claim there’s no random sexy ladies associated (the nymphs certainly qualify, but the sexy versions were a previous, non-game related Kickstarter), it seems a lot more…mature…as far as that goes.
It could all still fall apart, but I feel like I made a good choice with it.
What’s your other most anticipated game?
Etherfields. Tainted Grail rocked my world, Etherfields seems like it’s got a lot of what I liked about that but also a really cool surreal setting and, at least in theory, regularly changing and expanding on mechanics. It’s really ambitious so, y’know, plenty of possible pitfalls. But from what I have seen so far, Awaken Realms have the chops to manage it.
The ‘recent games’ thread mentioned Hold’Em-opoly, which manages to ruin both Poker and Monopoly, but Kickstarter has stepped forward with " AnteMatter " which is SPACE POKER and looks… just bizarre.
Skimming this thread has reminded me why it’s a good idea for me to stay away from Kickstarter : )
Although some of them are doing a great job of putting me off right from the outset. This one is old now, but I’m just not sure who the Maharaja campaign was pitching to by boasting about the huge amount of space it was going to take up (whether on your table or your shelf).
Regarding super villains, I’ll take the opportunity to recommend Austin Grossman’s novel Soon I Will Be Invincible, which is a delight.
I remember first seeing info for Monsters On Board and thought “meh, instant pass.”
I than made the mistake of watching Rahdo’s playthrough (which is rare as I usually can’t sit through a full playthrough of any game), and though “Well damn, this looks fun and us disgustingly charmibg”.
Anyone else looking at it?

What a perfect fit to showcase The Mico’s style. I hadn’t seen this at all but my interest is piqued!
Cascadia, from the Calico guys. The reviewers seem to looooove it.
I can’t say no to Nature themes, or spatial puzzles, but while I’d absolutely pay the base price of £23 for it the total including shipping is $44 and that’s… a bit much. (I do want Calico as well though)
Oh, and Beth Sobel on art!

I love the nature theme but the gameplay just looks so run-of-the-mill. Play tiles on X patterns and score Y pts + a few more scoring cards for variation “to keep it fresh”. Unless you really like Cascadia theme, why not buy, say, Indian Summer?
