I honestly got a bit confused about which boxes were for what. So, I opted to go “all-in” as a way to simplify my thought process. Hopefully I won’t regret it.
Something small and cute:
From Mr PnP who also created the “Starting Player Die”, which might be my favourite Kickstarter I’ve backed.
Is it just a metal coin? Yes, but it’s cheap and a fun experiment. I think it’ll be worth having just for a dedicated coin flipper.
Of course you did. All the games will eventually be yours!
I’ve always backed through the Kickstarters so best other way I know of to get them is through the company’s webpage: https://www.vanrydergames.com/graphicnovels
I’m sure they are sold other places like game stores or bookstores as well, but I’ve just never tried. They have lots of different themes but all I’ve ever done before is all the Sherlock Holmes ones. There’s been one or two of those ever “season” plus a separate mini series (The Baker Street Irregulars). I did go for a couple non Sherlock ones in the most recent Kickstarter but they haven’t arrived yet.
A squeegee
The horror!
I was just on KS, waiting for Mercado de Lisboa to launch when I stumbled across Divine Harem the ‘sexy card game’ (I’m not linking to it). Not only does this exist, it’s 6000% funded with over £30k!
Who is buying this? (*Apologies if you’re buying this). If you want to look at saucy pictures of ladies I’ve heard that it’s possible to do that for free on the internet.
While I’m depressed at humanity, I’ve only ever backed projects that were fully funded. What’s the most exciting thing in the boardgame space that you backed which didn’t meet its’ funding goal?
Never happened to me.
But I have mostly switched over to boringly safe Kickstarters from my initial experiments and even those experiments were all funded. I mostly back reprints and expansions these days. Or at least returning authors, I am sorry to say that “first timers” will rarely convince me to back their KS.
Yeah. Quite apart from any concerns of objectification (which I find entirely reasonable), I don’t want to look at comely members of the appropriate sex and play boardgames at the same time.
Oh wow. It’s like Tanto Cuore but lewder.
I was trying to compose something amusingly caustic about it. It seems below exploding kittens on a mechanics level but mechanics clearly isn’t the aim of the game.
Mmthe thing that’s currently leaving me mind boggled about it, who would order one of those pillow cases? And of the people that would, would they actually sleep in a bed with them covering their pillows?
For those who watched Big Mouth I’m thinking the pillow cases might have an ulterior motive.
Hmmm… based on your post, I thought they are offering an anime body pillow on one of the tiers, but no. Im disappointed.
I have been trying not to think about the pillow cases.
I’m really sorry that I have brought this into people’s lives
I’ve backed a few “first timers” with varying success. Usually, they earn my pledge by being authentic and transparent, especially on social media.
This bit me pretty bad with Chai - the creators were so engaged with their communities during the campaign but all-but-ignored everything that wasn’t their Facebook-hosted-echo-chamber after the fact, even during delays for fulfillment.
On the other hand, Whales Destroying the World and Arcane Alley were really satisfying experiences for me. I really hope Whales Destroying the World gets picked up by a bigger publisher and makes it onto store shelves; it’s solid and the art style is fantastic.
I rarely back projects that haven’t already funded at this point - reprints, expansions or new stuff from proven designers is generally what I go for. The only board/card game I’ve ever backed that didn’t fund was an expansion for Shadowfist’s LCG reboot, which was surprising to me because I think there had been like three successful previous campaigns for Shadowfist content. I backed two of them. As far as I know that’s been the end of development on that one, which is sad.
My first Lacerda. £25 (ish) plus postage seems pretty good.
No dodgy card games either
Although my plan to back The Gallerist in the PM is unlikely considering it’s $100
I’m gonna watch a playthrough. I love Lacerda’s games, but the basic pitch sounds dull to me, so maybe in motion it’s more exciting. And I’ve never needed a filler game - when I have people over, it’s to play one substantial game. But if it manages to capture the depth that I love from his games without being quite so intimidating, maybe I’d actually get it played more than once.
Here’s a glimpse into my brain: I’m afraid to try a Lacerda game because I’m afraid it’ll become a new obsession. I figure I’m prone to either loving them all or hating them all. Honestly, I think it’ll be the latter, but I just can’t take the chance.
I’m using this as a way to dip my toes in.
The reviews I listen to either love Lacerda or hate him, but I think it’s worth trying.
Steering more towards The Gallerist as well, it’s OOP in the UK so I’ll be able to sell it.
I’d recommend Lisboa. Of his heavy games the rules are the easiest to wrap your brain around. The strategies aren’t necessarily the easiest but the flow of a turn is It’s also my favourite of his titles.
