The Crowdfunding Thread

My big box and copy of Fiends & Familiars for Roll Player just showed up. Will get to sorting that all out in a few hours. The lenticular monster cards are pretty awesome, I’m glad I dropped the extra few bucks for them. Apparently they also have stat variations too, so there’s some added gameplay variety with them, which is a nice touch.

@Derelicte definitely wait to see what other insert options become available for the big box. The Meeple Realty one has a few annoying quirks, mostly due to the way they tacked on the new stuff to the existing one.

That’s awesome! I didn’t grab any of the add-ons, but it’s nice that they added some gameplay variety to them as well.

I’ll definitely hold off to see what other options become available. Worst case, I’ve even considered just grabbing a few deck boxes and using those to keep the cards sorted. I think I may do that anyways, as it would be maybe $10-15, and make setup a bit easier.

Well this insane beast is fully funded and climbing.

Even as a big fan, this looks a bit crazy to me (although I still really want it!) 100 bucks for blinged components and a huge box for 50 quid game.

You can drop another $95 if you really want the whole thing blinged out. Well, most of it. I don’t think you can get upgraded versions of every component.

I’d drop $30 or 40 on a big box that held everything with a decent insert. I don’t care about 3D tiles, and you can’t get the box without the tiles, and I don’t remotely want the big box bad enough to pay $100.

The Terraforming Mars Big Box Kickstarter really rubs me the wrong way.

It’s overproduced – fine, whatever. Maybe this franchise needs a bit of overproduction after such a poor initial art design. But there’s no content. And that’s usually the defense of these component-heavy projects, right? “Sure, they could sell it cheaper and still be profitable, but they need to pay for the playtesting and the designers effort and the development process”. There’s none of that: this is a cash grab – likely a 10-to-1 ratio of profit-to-cost, based on the quantities they’ll be able to order.

I dunno, TFM is just about the most bland game I’ve ever come across, but there’s no denying the rabid fan base. If I was huge into the game I’d be all over this box-o-excess.

I don’t think [EDIT: Stronghold Games] understand production. Every decision they make is uglier than the one before. Plastic tiles could look great, but these look like absolute trash.

It’s like SG is run by those really cynical people who bemoan KS backers will buy anything if there’s plastic in it. No need to put any effort into the design. Just make it plastic whatever, job done.

If I was big into TM, I would maybe back resentfully to get the box? But even at $100? I dunno.

As more games get big boxes I am starting to realise it’s a poisoned chalice. It’s great for storing together, but any time you want to take it out the house? Good luck! It’s like these games need a big box, with a smaller ‘carry case’ box built into it for gamenights.

But don’t worry Trickerion big box, I don’t mean you. I mean all the other heavy cumbersome big boxes. Xxo

While I cannot disagree about Rio Grande, I wonder if perhaps you are talking about Stronghold Games in this particular scenario?

Oh yeah, sorry, the two blend into one for me. Both are “we make the games in the USA (except for the parts made in China), so of course our games are expensive with low quality components!” publishers.

What I perceive as poor about the art design of TM is not that it’s basic but that it’s inconsistent; there are a bunch of different art styles being used more or less at random. Pick one and stick with it, or use one for each sort of card, and it could work a lot better with basically the same art.

If I had fewer scruples than dollars, I’d probably pledge for 10 of the big boxes to scalp later on…

Yeah, I like my Sentinels collector box, but it’s enormous and heavy as shit. Not very practical in general. I don’t have to take games places very often (I mostly play at my place), but that rules that one out. I’m thinking that might be a similar issue for the upcoming Trove Chest for my Too Many Bones pile.

And I’m not sure TFM even needs that kind of storage - I haven’t tried yet, but people are saying they can get all the expansions in the core box. Even if I needed to use a second box, that’s still probably more practical than what they’re Kickstarting. And that’s without the enormously expensive bling I don’t need.

Yep

We’ve got every expansion apart from Colonies (including laser cut player boards) and it all goes in the base box with a squeeze.

It’s funny, I can see why people hate the art, but it’s never bothered me. There are better 3D printed tiles to buy from independent producers. As I said, we’re big fans, but no way I’m paying this much for a box.

Gloom is something I didn’t play that often but after I got the Broken Token storage box for cheap, it never got played again. It turned from a small box game I could chuck in my bag as a “maybe” to something huge and oddly shaped.

I got the Great Big Box O’ Everything in the Star Realms Frontiers kickstarter.

What I take to conventions is just the Frontiers box.

You all should see my XL edition of Decrypto. Gonna put a conservative number here and say it’s 80% air, and that includes LaserDrive, still boxed! Box dimensions themselves dwarf Roads&Boats&Etc. (though not by a lot). I wish I had my original version for a comparison shot. It’s nuts.

Found a group pledge for Kemet 2 that gives me a solid discount. I love Kemet so went for it.

I was tempted by the Kemet KS until I saw the pricing. I just can’t justify it for a game I have not played before which probably won’t hit the table very often, when I have already done that in the past. While I do not regret my past KS’s, I can honestly say they were not the wisest purchases.

Hmmmm…

Them’s some tasty looking airships, but I’m not sure if buying another $300 board game is a wise financial decision… Just kidding, of course it is!:nerd_face:

FC0B; no game design pedigree; no actual rulebook, just a pitch for the game mechanics; there appears to be gameplay content restricted to the collector’s edition, though that may just be a graphical error.

But I’m tempted.
