Star Trek Ascendancy game 2

@RogerBW asked for a die roll:
System disc: The Badlands (H4 Phenomenon-5): Ships may not move through this Phenomenon. They must end their movement here.

Hazard 4 vs Shields 2, ship is lost on a 6: d6: 3

Where should the Research go?

Two Commands left.

Add research to Planetary Defense Shield, completing it. I also gain 1 culture from “Explore Strange New Worlds” for discovering a new phenomenon.

Command 6: begin new Advancement Project: Starfleet Command.
Command 7: begin new Advancement Project: Starfleet Diplomatic Corps (discard Long Range Sensor Arrays).

End of turn. Next player is turn order card number 5.

All done. 5 is Vulcan; I probably won’t have time for this tonight.

Vulcan build phase

  • 9 Research + 2 Production upgrades Shields to 3.
  • 1 Research each on Vulcan Warp Drive and Long Range Listening Posts.
  • 5 Culture on third Ascendancy.
  • 2 Production on a Production Node at Capella.
  • 9 Production on a 9-ship Fleet 3 at Vulcan.

Vulcan command phase

  • C1 Better Than You gathers Research from McAllister, goes to Vulcan Warp Drive.
  • Science Halitra braves Subspace Anomaly without using a Command, auto-passes. Reseach to Vulcan Warp Drive, completing it.
  • C2-C3 Science Halitra cycles in and out of warp to Mutara Nebula; warp bonus from Subspace Anomaly doesn’t matter. No shield bonus, so they have to roll; double 5+ kills a ship.

@RogerBW asked for a die roll:

  • 2d6: 4 + 5 = 9
  • 2d6: 2 + 2 = 4
  • 2d6: 3 + 3 = 6
  • 2d6: 4 + 6 = 10
  • 2d6: 4 + 2 = 6

Mutara Nebula research goes to Long Range Listening Posts.

  • C4-C5 Fleet 3 moves to Temporal Anomaly, auto-passes hazard, refreshes commands.

@RogerBW asked for a die roll:
Refresh d3-1: 2 commands.

Research goes to Long Range Listening Posts, completing it.

  • C4 again initiate Vulcan Exodus project.
  • C5 again-C6 Consul Halitra retreats to Bajor.

Any Vulcan allies want their ships/fleets moved with the final two commands?

I think I’m good with where my ships are at the moment, thanks.

You can move a single ship to Bajor if you want

I could use a couple ships heading towards Rura Pente, but it’s not a priority… would just save me some Commands later on.

  • C7 put one Cardassian ship at Cardassia into warp
  • C8 put one Andorian ship at Andor into warp

Done.

If someone has 6, you could play now; otherwise, @Assussanni, next card please.

SInce I chatted about this with one of the players, and it’s not secret, I might as well say here: one of the changes in the Unofficial Complete Rulebook is that Vulcan Agenda victory claims happen at the same time as other victory claims, at the start of the recharge phase. So if e.g. I have the agenda “Orbit 8 Developed Systems you do not Control”, what matters is whether I’m doing it then, not whether it happened briefly on my turn. Also I don’t need to reveal the agenda when I achieve it on my turn.

If I was the Vulcans and I did complete that secret Objective… I would not reveal it only because I’d much rather see the drama about to unfold among the rest of the Galaxy!
