Aarrrrrrgggggghhhh now I have to buy City of Winter…
I have floated the idea with my local TTRPG group. If they chip in $40 each, then maybe I can justify the cost? Maybe? Arghhhhhhh…
The other ones didn’t appeal. Too depressing or weird or clunky for me. But City of Winter… mmm. Yeah. That’s the juice.
Lots of the short games Quinns is calling for in the intro already exist in electronic form. I suspect his board-game-reviewer focus on physicai product, and industry contacts of people wanting to send him review copies, may be working against him here. Yes, there’s still an argument for box vs book vs PDF, but to ignore the PDF leg entirely seems to miss most of where the innovation is happening.. And many things that don’t cost $160 plus shipping.
(Traditionally in UK retail a boxed game was “a game” that attracted VAT, while books alone were “books” that didn’t.)
I own FALL OF MAGIC and I do not regret the price I paid.
Ugh. Curse you, Quinns! I am going to get the damn thing. Maybe not this week but I am.
If shipping to the UK weren’t quite so horrendous I’d probably pick up fall of magic / city of winter… but on top of the high price point it’s tricky to justify
