[PbP] Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay

@Cokho asked for a die roll:
Thank you ! I will say, since I said that’s the kind of things I saw my parents use for sheeps, I’m absolutly fine with it being totally useless once I actually try to heal a person with.

Unfortunately the countryside immediately around the town is devoid of the types of plants that Meinrad recognises. This close to a large settlement it is likely that the residents are quick to harvest any nearby plants of any utility. The adjacent land has also been given over for agriculture and livestock grazing, with cattle and sheep hardly discerning about what they eat. Meinrad would have to travel further afield to seek the types of plants that knows, although he can find a quiet place in some dead ground in a small copse of trees to practice his magic.

The Temple of Shallya is located on the edge of the Marktplatz. It is an impressive building, built in the classical style, with white walls that seemingly soar skywards up to a wide dome. Inside, there is a wide central space for worship and tending to the sick, with a series of curtains alcoves along both sides. Glancing at the interior of the dome, Else can see a beautifully painted fresco that depicts a crying Shallya reaching across the heavens, her tears falling as a rain about a flock of untouched doves.

A nun of the order greets Else as she enters, taking a note of the feverish sweat on her forehead. She ushers Else into one of the alcoves. “It is clear that you have some kind of fever. Can you describe any other symptoms so that I can best understand your condition?”

The lay sister looks over Else in a very business-like fashion, shaking her head at the seeping mess as she probes the wound. She disappears and comes back with various medical supplies, and starts to clean and then dress the wound. She passes over a small clear vial containing a viscous green fluid. “Drink this tomorrow, and it should break your fever. You need to be more careful and get such injuries examined sooner rather than later. Although we provide such services for free to any that require them, a donation to help our cause would be greatly appreciated.”

((@Griffster77 Can Else give me an average (+20) Endurance test please, and let me know if you take the medicine as perscribed by the nun))

@Griffster77 asked for a die roll:
(Sorry, I meant to answer your question above about the symptoms but totally forgot! Serves me right for reading and not replying immediately)

Yes, Else will take the medicine as proscribed.

By the way, do we get paid as watchmen?

Ignore the bit about being paid - I remember the roll for the amount now

((I haven’t really been keeping a track of your money very well at all btw. Does Else leave a donation for the temple?))

The next day, Else does as instructed, swallowing down the green medicine. It tastes absolutely foul, bitter and acrid, and she gags and struggles not to vomit. She spends the remainder of the day looking almost as green as the liquid was, and begins to wonder what sort of ‘medicine’ she was palmed off with.

Else presses 2 silver shillings into the hand of the priestess before taking the vial and stumbling out of the temple. Before heading back to the watch house, Else heads to the temple of Sigmar. Here she prays to Sigmar for the strength to carry on seeking out his enemies and the abomination of magick and chaos. And also the strength not to throttle that bastard sergeant with her bare hands, at least not until she can prove he is in league with the Ruinous Powers, at which point she’ll gladly put a bullet in his skull…

(I’ll donate 10th of my wealth here. I currently seem to have 3 GC, 5 SS and 34P so that works out as circa 81p. I’ll put 5SS and 21p in the collection box, or to the priest or however it works)

After spending the whole of the previous day feeling nauseous, Else awakes the next morning to find that her fever has broken, and that the leg wound is showing signs of finally healing properly.

((Current status of characters is as follows:

Amris is at 10/10 Wounds, 1/1 Fortune, 1/1 Resolve
Meinrad is 14/14 Wounds, 4/4 Fortune, 1/2 Resolve
Fronika is 11/11 Wounds, 2/2 Fortune, 4/4 Resolve
Else is 17/17 Wounds, 2/2 Fortune, 3/4 Resolve (her festering wound and all associated conditions have been healed))

((I said elsewhere that I’ll get you moving onto the next thing tomorrow to give a chance for any last minute RP, but I’m going to continue whilst I have a moment of free time. Happy to retcon in any appropriate other activity if required))

Rather than your usual routine of meeting Sergeant Rudi by the Custom House and then starting your beat, you are summoned to the office of Watch Captain Andrea Pfeffer. Rudi is already there, wearing a smug smile, and you catch a glimpse of a new shiny gold ring on one of his fingers. Captain Pfeffer sits behind her large desk, and looks up from a scroll as you enter.

“Ah yes, our troll slayers… there is an important matter requiring investigation that you four will be looking into. This morning Sergeant Klumpenklug brought an urgent but unusual request for assistance to my attention. One of the leading members of the council here in Ubersriek is heavily involved with the wool trade. He has been expecting to receive some shipments of wool from a village to the north, which have not been arriving as scheduled with no word as to why. He is losing money for each day that he cannot fill his orders, so has petitioned the Watch for aid. I need you go and find out what has happened to those wool shipments.”

“I would normally ignore this as a matter outwith the responsibilities of the Watch, especially since the village is not within the town bounds, and stretched as we are, I cannot really afford to divert the manpower. However, the Sergeant has pointed out that there is a valuable opportunity here to win some support from one of the town’s leading citizens, which is something I cannot easily dismiss considering some of the ill will that Altdorf’s presence in Ubersriek seems to have generated.”

“This investigation will require you to leave the town and head north to a village called Fahrenbeck. I can’t spare the Sergeant to accompany you, so you will be unsupervised. Now, I am not entirely certain that I can fully trust those who were so heavily involved in sparking a riot in this town, but I have little choice. The phrase used by the Sergeant was ‘ give them enough rope to hang themselves with’. Clumsy perhaps, but nevertheless an accurate statement. I will give you a chance to prove that you can be trusted, but with caveats to ensure that you do not use the chance to escape your current punishment for your misdemeanours.”

“I will give you seven days to go north, complete your investigation, and return back here. If you take any longer, I will judge you as having fled, and will issue warrants that you should be considered escaped fugitives to be arrested on sight, and using whatever force necessary.”

“Are there any questions?”

((If there are no questions, then you can start to plan your journey. Below is a map of the area. It is about 40 miles as th crow flies between Ubersreik and Fahrenbeck. On foot, you’ll travel about 4 miles per hour, and there’s around 6 hours per day of travelling time (unless you push yourselves hard). That’s roughly a 4 day round trip, and you’ve only got 7 days of time allowed. Over to you all to discuss options and how you’ll go about making them happen…))

Questions:

  • How long have shipments been delayed?

  • When was the last contact?

  • Can we speak to the merchant before we go?

  • Who is the contact in the village?

  • Can we either borrow horses or take money to buy passage on a coach.

“As I understand it, the councilman does not want his business troubles widely known in case his rivals scent a weakness to exploit. He also does not want to be seen questioned by Watchmen, as it will again risk his reputation. That is why he contacted the Watch more discretely by contacting the Sergeant. I am sure he can fill you in on any more details.”

The Captain looks towards Rudi, who runs through some additional details in response to your questions. “Shipments started to get erratic three weeks ago. There’s a whole bunch of different flocks owned by various farmers up that way, but Kasper Teuber is the merchant at Fahrenbeck that organises the wool trade. He ain’t sent any word as to what’s happened; otherwise, we wouldn’t have to be sending you to investigate, would we?”

The Captain chimes back in about the question of horses and coin. “The Town Watch does not have many horses, and I do not hold you in sufficient esteem to entrust them to you. Again, I am reluctant to give you any coin – I may just be financing your ability to flee. I will consider reimbursing any appropriate expenses, but you will have to evidence the necessity of the costs.”

((As a note, Ride is a skill that is occurs under Watch Captain (tier 4 in the Watchman career), which demonstrates a horse is not a common place thing to have on hand for the Watch. Also, buying a mule would cost 5 gold, so it’s unlikely anyone is going to give you a loan of such an animal bearing in mind your status as pressganged convicts.))

Yeah I know but it was worth a try!

“Would you know if there is any caravan or convoy leaving today we could join up with to move a bit faster? And also, if you pardon my insolence; do you realize how crazy it is that you’re only leaving us 7 days for an investigation? Can we at least put a system in place so we can warn you if we are still on the job but we need some more time?”

The Captain gives Meinrad a glare, not really appreciating the questioning – after all, she comes from a military background where soldiers follow orders without question, or face the consequences. She bites back some of her anger, but it still comes through in her voice.

“I strongly doubt that you will be unable to ascertain the reasons behind why these shipments have halted within this time frame. Consider it a motivation to ensure that you don’t idle and waste your time. If you find you require more than seven days, then I am sure you will find a way to let me know. As for what caravans might be travelling that way, I suggest you go and find out for yourselves. I am not a merchant, and I have far more pressing issues dealing with the safety of the citizens within this town to care about such things.”

Fronika tries to hold in her anxiety. Don’t they have any fear of authority? She certainly does.

Else weighs up her options. She’s not happy but doesnt really see a way out of it and she doesnt really want to be a fugitive (although it wouldnt be the first time there had been a misunderstanding about some of her activities…). She glares murder at Rudi.

Grumpily, she mutters “Fine, lets be off”, turns to leave before turning back resentfully to add, “With your leave, Captain” and stomping out the office (unless she is stopped)
