I also have this problem. Delivery notices, photos of funerals, graduations, etc. So at least in one case I actually have the address of the person who directly sent me those photos, but repeated attempts to inform her that the email address she is using is not the same as the email address her son uses have so far not been effective.
The latest parcel was from Amazon, they must have had a delivery notification and photo, yet it was still by my door when I left this morning. (Haven’t had chance to take it round yet.)
I don’t have this problem, but I have the same name as two very famous people. Whenever I turn up for restaurant that I’ve booked people are very disappointed
You need to make reservations as “X, but not that one.”
That’s my full name
We have the benefit of being completely ungooglable, however.
I share a name with a long dead baseball hall of famer, a recently retired baseball star, a b-tier las vegas comedian, and a former liverpool footballer.
I happen to be less famous than all of them. Though I am notably more alive than one.
Disappointed that you’re not one of them, but delighted and relieved that you’re not the other one?
I did once get a support call where, when I asked for her name, her response was “Leona Lewis, not that one.”
I’m in a similar boat. No one super famous, just quite generic. Most amusing was a TV character played by a guy who went on to be mayor of my home city.
I later went to school with his daughter.
At my wife’s graduation ball, they had to get an emergency band to cover the 2nd night (Uni too big to do in one night, unlike mine at Aberystwyth!) and they got Chesney Hawkes. He mostly played covers but occasionally would say ‘Ok, I’m going to play one of my own songs now” Crown starts cheering “Not that one…” Crown visibly deflated!
He did play THAT ONE 3 times tho!
When I was at Pfizer on a student placement, a high level director shared my name.
I occasionally got asked about $10mill pilot studies.
Met a friend from university, his American spouse, and their three almost-adult children yesterday, on the tail-end of their skiing trip. This kind of thing never happens, so it was a very nice occasion to celebrate.
I used to work for AT&T, supporting provisioning systems for payphones and operator services, which tells you how long ago this was. My organization got sold to IBM, and when we got integrated into their global address book, my officemate got inserted before a director with the same first and last name, because his middle initial was A, and the other guy’s wasn’t. So he got a whole lot of email for that guy, including lots of pretty sensitive business matters, but also things like “Hey wanker, you walked out on your tab last night again, you owe me a hundred quid.”
The nice thing about having to wear a winter coat is that they have lots of pockets.
The bad thing about having to wear a winter cost is that they have lots of pockets.
I put my hat in the wrong pocket last night, and just spent several minutes looking for it. I knew I was wearing it when I came home, but I didn’t remember I’d put it in an inside pocket. (In fact, I didn’t know the coat had those pockets…)
More than once I have found money in my winter coat the following winter.
And sometimes, outside pockets are sewn in such a way that new, unintended inside pockets are created.
We periodically rediscover these false pockets and discover (for the first time) a great pile of treasure (read: trash) in them, inside our children’s coats.
I have a very heavy winter parka (down insulation, fur lined collar, etc) that I don’t wear often because it’s not often cold enough here for it. I wore it last week when we went north, and in the pockets I found a surprising quantity of individually wrapped masks, which wort of dates when I last wore it. the receipt would have definitely done so, but it had faded to blank.
My friend Miranda in London has, for years, got email intended for a Mayor of Portland. It’s possible that’s a senator now.
She used to get LOTS of worried mail about Dredgers. Just got one about the Maine Afterschool Network, who are worried about the Governor’s budget. It doesn’t matter how many times Miranda tells them, she will always have a second career in Maine.
I once received an email meant for someone in one of our Secret Services. I had to go through a security check and everything TO GIVE THEM BACK THEIR OWN DAMN EMAIL.
I don’t know how I got it as my email isn’t remotely similar to @gov.uk or whatever so I’ve gotta assume someone was sending.email to someone they shouldn’t and got the wrong email. It wasn’t even that interesting
On more than one occasion I have received an invite to a meeting with directors in our parent company’s country. A holiday would be nice.
Just deleting it seems so much easier.
