“Oy!” “Wut?” Just chat (The Return of)

MARX works on a level of you can always branch out into something esle, but I don’t imagine it will be easy to find for poeple who want Mechwarrior content.

Tbh - the youtube stuff I look at (or get shown by the algorithim) is based on searches and I very rarely look at a creator’s name unless I really like what they’re producing (most of us are here because of SUSD and I never would have searched for that at random)

Having said that, what about ‘MarxWarrior’?

S. Club VII ?

(Sorry. If I think of a proper answer, I’ll follow up!)

Solaris VII … S7 LIST

FWIW, Solaris + LIST = Solarist? (Which might also be “Solaris7” in the “substitute a number for a letter” mode of writing that all the kids were once wild about.) I can envisage an animated logo making sense of it, at least.

Or… Mechs Marx the Spot :). (Or Mechs Marx Despot, depending on your character…)

Gosh, I hope TM aren’t going to be an issue… I mean, there is a lot of Battletech content on Youtube, and most of it refers directly to either Battletech or Mechwarrior by name (and sometimes by logo).

That’s adorable and I love it…

I am a little concerned that people would think I am arguing enthusiastically for communism (I am a Library Socialist, so they wouldn’t be far off, but thay’s beside the point). But the logo could have “Mech” flicker and change into Marx…

The struggle between the capitalists and the proletariat is essentially a struggle of ten-metre-tall war machines.

TBF, if you squint hard enough anything is either trains or 10 metre tall bipeal robots fighting.

Just had an email to tell me that my gift card is going to expire in a week, or rather they’re changing backends and they won’t transfer my credit.

The Prios haven’t been in stock since I won the gift card. Their response, “maybe buy something else?”

My daughter and I are at a baseball game. She plays the winner tomorrow, in a playoff game. She was recognized by one of the moms on the team we want to win (because we can beat them more easily ). She said she was cheering for my daughter when she got a hit against her son.

The more I think about board game designing and its designers, the more I think that the “ideas guy” on video game design is actually legit.

Just got this from the newsletter of Mrs Wingspan. I barely ever read any newsletters that I get so I am surprised I scrolled through it enough to find out there is a documentary about boardgames. Have any of you seen it?

My guess would be HTML written email meets an inbox that doesn’t render it and a sign maker who is very literal with text requests.

There’s been lots of big progress on curing HIV recently, with a new mRNA approach to making the virus vulnerable, and reports that infants given anti-retrovirals early enough show zero HIV count even when they stop the drugs.

(I worked with Retrovir and others in a lab about 20 years ago, so this is exciting)

But what I didn’t expect was that one person critical to the success of the last month’s mRNA breakthrough was… the lead singer of the band The Offspring, Dexter Holland.

He quit Uni in 1994 when the band took off, and went back in 2017 to finish his PhD in molecular biology, and wrote a paper called:

“Discovery of Mature MicroRNA Sequences within the Protein-Coding Regions of Global HIV-1 Genomes: Predictions of Novel Mechanisms for Viral Infection and Pathogenicity”

which was directly cited in the latest HIV work. It was also “heavily cited in creating the COVID-19 vaccine”.

So there you go. The dude who sang “Pretty Fly For A White Guy” just helped to cure AIDS.

(He also kicked out the band’s drummer in 2021 after 14 years because the drummer was anti-vax, and frankly the lead singer had been heavily influential in developing that specific vax, so).

Can confirm being in a top selling pop-punk band makes more money than a postdoc. I think. I haven’t done the first one.

Yeah - The Offspring was always one of those bands that was way smarter than the persona they put forth. Like Bon Jovi, Kesha…

I remember an old interview where they were challenged on ripping off other songs (Something to Believe in = Stories for Boys by U2) including ripping off their own (putting nearly identical songs on subsequent albums). They just shrugged and articulated how they were dialed in on what the crowds/fans wanted to hear. In the end it was just savvy business.

Good for them.
