I don’t even know where to post this… but the other day the PDFs for the Dungeon Crawler Carl RPG were delivered via Backerkit. Except they weren’t direct downloads on Backerkit like other campaigns (f.e. Cosmere stuff)… but they had “coupon codes” for the Renegade Webstore.
Make sure you’re on the EU site … obviously by default no matter where you click… you land in the US.

But no matter how much I logged into the store before clicking the link: I am logged out again …
Then during the process of ordering I got logged out again and ordered as guest…
Because I cannot read, I did not notice the BIG RED LETTERS telling me to turn off my Adblocker to download the stuff I paid for.
I had not realized I ordered as guest and at some point got annoyed and closed the tab.
I thought I would just get an email with the order or access it through my account. I used a different browser logged in and … no order… and the coupon code notified me it had been used.
I checked my emails: nothing.
I checked my emails again: nothing.
I tried with the second code for the other content… and didn’t go through with the order when it logged me out during the process again and then refused to let me log back in.
I tried resetting my password but got no mail.
No mail.
No mail.
I could write a poem about no mail really.
I let it go.
But not quite.
My partner offered to see if he could find some less than above board copies floating on the ocean of IP addreses somewhere with a skull & bones. I refused, I want my paid content!
Time passed.
I got an email from renegade reminding me that I had not completed that order.
Password reset mail did not arrive yet again.
I debugged some other stuff like why is the new external HDD only connecting with 480M and not the promised 5G (because the superfast extra pins on the micro usb tend to just bend and not work and most people don’t notice). To debug I plugged in an old SSD (Sandisk, don’t buy those) and my computer spontaneously went to sleep probably because overcurrent protection kicked in at hardware level before even the kernel could register it (I checked the kernel logs with 2 AIs and myself and there was nothing but a sudden desire to sleep).
Later for reasons unknown my partner decided to finally add a safe password to our Netgear switch. And locked us out of the switch. Cause unknown. Several rounds of swearing and a password ballet with
Factory Default password,
Previous Password,
New Password,
New password with accidental spaces pre and postfixed and
… so much waiting
because Netgear has a binary backoff for repeated password attempts
restarting the switch
At this point our DSL Router decides to get a firmware update in the middle of the day and just be unavailable for minutes, nixing our internet access. Because why not put more on the pile …
We were almost ready to factory-reset the switch when it hit me: “Your safe password? How long is it?”
“26 characters”
“Hey claude how long is the maximum password size of the Netgear Switch”
“20 characters”
“Nobody would make that mistake when programming a login form” (said BiL who was there by chance).
Well, somebody did make that mistake. So beware: do not use overly long passwords with Netgear Switches. Their UX programmers forget to test edge cases.
In between I made the best Pizza dough I have ever made. It was so easy to handle my friend insisted on making all the pizzas.
With the successful Switch debugging and the Pizza in mind I decided to order some games from my favorite OLGS. And never got their email that they had received my order.
No mail.
Wait… I know that.
We started with no mail.
I wrote them an email this morning and inquired about the missing order confirmation. They answered quite promptly which is lovely and totally the reason I almost always order from them when I buy stuff online: “Well I tried sending the Order confirmation but got a mistake, here is the lengthy error message and your order confirmation.”
Weirdly that mail arrived, because it had a different address as recipient because I was lazy. Yay.
I finally checked my mailserver logs and found two mistakes:

my mailserver got a major update and now the localparts of addresses are case sensitive in the postfix database. WTF? Localparts aren’t case sensitive by definition. I had about 20 of my 600 mail addresses with accidental capitalized letters, I fixed it. Lo and behold I am getting emails from the OLGS again

Renegade has a broken SPF record and it took me the better part of an hour to coax the necessary whitelisting syntax out of the internet (mostly claude but claude isn’t all that good with IT stuff. Programming yay, fixing servers… nay.
I was able to reset my password at renegade and claim both of my downloads.
Actually downloading them was more of a hassle but over the week-end they appear to have fixed the add blocker issues.
Should I tell them about their broken SPF record?
I really want to make more of that pizza dough. It was so good because the amount was too much for my machine and I had to do most of the kneading by hand.
PS I decided to move this to a better thread… it is really very little about crowdfunding and more about my weird week-end
PPS: because somebody might ask I ordered the “New Crew” (something something treasure hunting) and the Hitster Wacken (I tried to resist for a week until I failed to resist) for the upcoming week-end with friends for which I already studied the BotC rules because BotC has been requested!
