Maryse and I are curtently on vacation in the region (though not the city) where I grew up. Stopping in a local community bookstore, I saw a copy of **The Guild of Merchant Explorers**. Iā€™ve never heard of that game. No idea how it plays or how good it is. But something was calling to me. So I got it. ---

Found **One Night Ultimate Werewolf: Daybreak** cheap at Goodwill a week or so ago, so picked it up. Not really sure why since I have barely played my copy of the original ONUW, but here we are. Then my wife wanted to get me a small treat the other day and my FLGS had a used copy of **Space Base** , which I have enjoyed playing on BGA, so got that. Itā€™s in really good shape. ---

It feels like every summer my household goes crazy and I fall off the internet almost entirely, and then every autumn, I crawl back into the various corners of the internet from which I had fadedā€¦ And then I realize that I havenā€™t posted anything recently, and that despite _buying very little_ (especially compared to my prior buying habits), I do actually have a few things to discuss! ## High Frontier 4 All ā€“ Exodus ā€“ > I really enjoy HF4A. I mean, it has some sharp edges, but itā€™s so fun to blast a spaceship across the solar system in one turn (and then spend the next 12 years trying to figure out how to get it back home). When I bought HF4A, it came as a bundle with Modules 1, 2, 3. Since then, Modules 4, 5, and now 6 are out or have been announced- and I believe Module 7 may even be planned? Unfortunately, Module 5 and 6 donā€™t work with solo play, so Iā€™ve never given them much thought. But Module 4 features an update to the Module 0 solo rules, along with some really interesting new mechanisms that make the game more interesting for repeated plays. > However, in the past, buying a single Module from ION directly meant paying almost as much again for shipping. At some point, I went to various online game retailers and signed up to be notified for Module 4 to be restocked, and at some point while out of time on family vacation over the summer, I got a restock notification. Easy decision, and it landed on my doorstep the day after I got home from vacation. > However, my HF4A box was already overloaded, and this arrival prompted me to uncombine the expansions from the base game box back into their (very nice) expansion boxes. ## Imperium: Classics ā€“ > Iā€™ve heard a lot about this game. At the local gaming convention that I briefly attended over the summer, I saw a full collection of Imperium Classics/Legends/Horizons for $100; I was very tempted, but felt like without having played it at all, it was foolish to spend that kind of money. I opted instead to grab just Classics and try that out. Restraint! ## Everdell Silverfrost - Collectorā€™s Edition ā€“ > I made the mistake of tapping on the local Facebook Gaming Buy/Sell/Trade group and saw someone post this for $35 and a local meetup. Silverfrost, Iā€™m told, is the most _complex_ of the Everdell games, so Iā€™m definitely interested in that. But, more importantly, I was able to remove the _retail_ version from my wishlist, which was listed at $100 ## Railways of the Lost Atlas / Landmarks of the Lost Atlas ā€“ > Iā€™ve been sitting on some birthday cash for a couple of months now, unsure of what I really wanted to spend it on. As I was catching up on BGG (after taking the summer off, apparently), I noticed that the Landmarks of the Lost Atlas crowdfunding was fulfilling, and I also noticed that the reprint of the base game came with some updates, including the official solo mode that was added between printings. > Iā€™m very excited for more solo 18xx. My biggest complaint about solo 1862 is how samey the board develops while playing solo- having a modular board seems like a big win, so hopefully the gameplay can match the crunchiness of 1862. ---

Can confirm that **Silverfrost** is the most complex one, by a few orders of magnitude. The snow adds a lot of balls to juggle. Itā€™s awesome. ---

I blame **Hanami** on the cherry blossoms and the color pink and my still not happening trip to Japan Iā€™ve been dreaming about since forever. Also I have been wanting Samurai in my collection for a long time. I had a copy once that I bought used but it was so banged up I sold it again. I blame **Wondrous Creatures** on this place. Several people here mentioned how much they liked and compared it to games I like. You know who you are. Feel the blame šŸ˜› **Night at the Zoo** was supposed to be a check-out at SPIEL. I blame my return trip from Greece which made me almost cancel SPIEL and in those waffle moments between going and not-going the game slipped into my shopping cart. **Wingspan Pocket** I blame on Stonemaier for making it. I meanā€¦ it existsā€¦ I must have it. The birds! Also Spacebiff gave it a good review. I already played it and it probably beats OG and Dragons for a quick solo. **Enchanted Ivy** I blame on the other people doing Solotober and posting about it. I already played it and itā€™s not only super-pretty and adorable, but the first two scenarios let me know this is exactly the kind of gameplay I adore. I tense puzzle with various setups and a small campaign to get to know the game and unlock some extra stuff. I promise to post pictures and talk more about it when I have played it a bit more. (please donā€™t take my ā€œblameā€ thing seriously, I take full responsibility for buying games, itā€™s just a fun way of relating some of the reasons I looked at games more closely.) ---
