This appears to be a trial for a new feature on SU&SD, “Ava Thinks Too Much About:”. So it’s not a review, but more of a game adjacent introspective. But, you may not know that without reading the main page, so I thought I’d share it.

An interesting little feature, this. I enjoyed it. The game looks cool as well.

“There’s hints of **Roads and Boats** here”

Forum klaxon!

I like this shorter-form thoughtful review format a lot, and Ava is great as usual.

I like this. It’s not a review, probably better because it’s not. Told me enough to decide if I want to give it a go or not. I’ll be grabbing a copy at the UKGE.

Also, glad when Ava mentioned “perverse incentives”. That often bugs me in board games, but often let it slide because board games are merely abstractions.

It’s good to get a different type of perspective on the game. As a game the game seems almost universally a disappointment from reviewers but that might be because we have purely bland metrics for determining what is good or worthwhile. As Ava said most games don’t have an awkwardness in their geography in a way that might reflect a normal place, it’s not pure efficiency but there is likely value for someone in that.

Having said that I wonder if there is something nice about knowing this thing exists and does this thing but still also I don’t want to pay 50 pounds for this to feel what it does. It’s almost like a reviewers only game. If we had the economy in boardgames of DVDs/streaming it’d be far more cool I thin.

My feeling after having watched this is that I’m still not really interested in the gameplay, but I’d like to explore the irregular-shape-construction part of the settlement-building game space a bit more.

Thought I was going to bounce hard off this video after the verbosely saccharine intro, but it ended up being really pleasant. Perfect length and didn’t go too far down that “games as abstractions” rabbit hole.

The ideas within the game look interesting, but altogether it does appear a little bland. Would definitely give it a shot though

It is no roads and boats. I disliked this game so much I just played to lose it quickly and will never play it again. Not that other people won’t like it, but it’s no roads and boats. Doesn’t bring that to mind at all.
